Wolves journalist shocked that Rui Patricio on the verge of Wolves exit

Luke Hatfield, from the Express and Star, is surprised that Rui Patricio is being strongly linked with a move away from Wolves.

The 33-year-old goalkeeper has missed just three Premier League games since joining from Sporting Lisbon three years ago.

But according to Sky in Italy, the Portugal international is close to completing a deal to sign for Roma for £13m, which is more than £3m less than what the Midlands outfit paid Sporting in 2018.

Whilst the departure of Nuno Espirito Santo might play a part in Patricio’s wish to leave Molineux, he’s been one of the standout goalkeepers in the Premier League since his arrival – keeping 30 clean sheets during his time in England, which is one every 3.7 appearances.

Despite turning 34 in February, Patricio’s excellent form has seen him continue as Portugal’s number one, which allowed him to play in every minute of their four matches at Euro 2020.

Hatfield, who covers Midlands clubs, told The Transfer Tavern:

“It’s a surprising link, isn’t it? Patricio is obviously very experienced, good performances for the Portugal national team, for Wolves he’s done well and was a big marquee signing at the time.”
