Former Wolves star has spoken about his delight of watching the “promising” young wing-back Rayan Ait-Nouri in action against Crystal Palace.
The 19-year-old scored on his debut during his side’s 2-0 victory against 10-man Crystal Palace on Friday, scoring the opening goal before Daniel Podence doubled their lead before the interval.
Thompson, who bagged 20 goals from 451 appearances for the West Midlands outfit (Soccerbase), loved what he saw from Ait-Nouri against Roy Hodgson’s team.
“I thought he grew into the game. As the game went on, he just got better and better,” he told the Shropshire Star.
“It was a good debut for him and it looks promising. I noticed how he kept things simple early on, didn’t try to force things. Then the longer the game went on, he grew in confidence.
“That was definitely on show, and he was able to top it off with a goal, and it was a great strike. It sat up nicely for him, but he finished it well with a lot of accuracy.”
Transfer Tavern take
From what we have seen so far, Ait-Nouri has been a great addition to Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad and could be a key asset for them going forward.
The season is young and Ait-Nouri is still a fresh face in the squad, but if he continues to impress and contribute at the right end of the pitch, we predict that Nuno will spend the money to keep him permanently.
