Wolves: Ruben Neves will have ‘plenty of offers’ to leave

Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves will have ‘plenty of offers’ to leave Molineux, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Lowdown: Neves’ future

Neves emerged as an option for Liverpool in the January transfer window, with the same report also naming Newcastle United as potential suitors, for a player that has admitted he has wanted to leave before.

Speaking to the Times, the midfielder indicated that his preference at the end of last season would have been to leave the club, and there are seemingly no new contract talks on the horizon to extend his current deal beyond 2024.

The Latest: Jones’ update

In an interview with GIVEMESPORT, Jones claims that the 25-year-old has outgrown Wolves, and he will have no shortage of potential suitors if he does decide to leave.

The transfer insider said: “When he turns it on, you do realise that he probably should be playing for somebody else.

“Any club that is typically in the mid-to-bottom half of the Premier League knows when they’ve got a player that’s probably too good for them and you just hold onto them for dear life. But Ruben Neves, I’m sure, will have plenty of offers.”

First up in this Wolves transfer quiz, who was the last player to be signed by Bruno Lage at Molineux?

The Verdict: Huge loss

If, as appears likely, the Portugal international does opt to seek pastures new at the end of the campaign, he will be a huge loss for Julen Lopetegui’s side, as he possesses qualities in so many different aspects of the game.

The former Porto man has developed a reputation for scoring from long-range, with statistics from back in August showing that 84% of his non-penalty goals for the Old Gold had been from outside the penalty area.

Not only that, but the ‘outstanding‘ ace, as hailed by Simon Stone, is also adept at the defensive side of the game, ranking in the 98th percentile for clearances and the 89th for interceptions per 90 over the past year, when compared to other midfielders.

As such, the fact that a move away looks to be on the cards is a big blow for Wolves, who will be faced with the difficult task of finding a suitable long-term replacement.
