Manchester United are currently enduring a strange period in their history following the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson and the disappointment of David Moyes.
Now under Louis Van Gaal, many of our resident Manchester United fans believe that their current squad is not good enough.
But even Ferguson, one of the most successful managers in history, had to deal with several really poor quality players throughout his managerial career at Old Trafford.
Our landlord asked the United fans over by the bar who they feel would make it into the worst XI of players who featured under Ferguson.

Massimo Taibi
Manchester United spent £4.5 million on Massimo Taibi following the retirement of Peter Schmeichel as their two remaining goalkeepers were injured.
However, Taibi became known for his poor goalkeeping errors and was dubbed ‘The Blind Venetian’. He only made four appearances, including a 5–0 defeat to Chelsea, before returning to his native Italy.
Rafael da Silva
Right back Rafael was impressive on occasion, but failed to maintain the level of consistency that was required to play under Ferguson.
The Brazilian full-back made over 100 appearances for the Reds, but was ultimately sold by United to French outfit Lyon.
Mikaël Silvestre
Former France international Mikaël Silvestre spent nine years at United, yet never fully convinced their fans that he had the required quality to play for them.
Played at left-back and as a makeshift central defender, Ferguson ultimately saw Silvestre as surplus to requirements and sold him to Premier League rivals Arsenal.
Laurent Blanc
Brought in as a replacement for Jaap Stam, Laurent Blanc joined United at the age of 35. He was criticised in the early months of his Reds career following a string of poor performances that saw United lose five matches.
His managerial career has been more impressive than his playing spell at United, however, winning three Ligue 1 titles, including one with Bordeaux and two with Paris-Saint Germain.
Fabio da Silva
Rafael da Silva’s twin brother was also an inconsistent full-back at Old Trafford. Later in his United career, he was loaned out to Queens Park Rangers in order to get more playing time, which he could not get at United due to the quality of alternatives, such as Patrice Evra.
Fabio then left for Cardiff City in 2014, where he has been more impressive.
Gabriel Obertan
Obertan joined United on a four-year deal, but departed after just two seasons.
He struggled to make any kind of impact in the first-team, scoring just once in 28 appearances, and ultimately left for Newcastle United.
Anderson
Having won the Golden Boy award for the best young player in Europe, Manchester United fans had high expectations for Anderson.
However, the Brazilian midfielder never really fulfilled his potential and left on a free transfer.
Owen Hargreaves
With a career plagued by injuries, it was always going to be difficult for Owen Hargraves to establish himself as a top player, despite his potential.
Signed from Bayern Munich for £17 million, the former England international would later play for rivals Manchester City, managing just four appearnaces for the Blues.
Bebe
It is widely believed that Ferguson signed Portuguese winger Bebe without ever having seen him play and it was certainly a mistake on his part.
He failed to make any real impact and was subsequently loaned to various clubs, before leaving for Benfica.
Federico Macheda
Now plying his trade at Championship side Cardiff, Federico Macheda was another young player tipped for glory under Ferguson.
However, he failed to build on an impressive stoppage-time debut winner against Aston Villa and his potential never came to fruition.
Mame Biram Diouf
Another poor striker who featured for United under Ferguson is Mame Biram Diouf. Having watched the Senegal striker for two year, Ferguson decided to purchase him as a result of other clubs looking to sign him.
However, it turned out to be a poor decision, as he only made nine appearances for the Reds over the two seasons he spent in their squad, netting just once.
