Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern have been ripping into former Ger, Joey Barton, after he criticised the standard of the Scottish Premiership, comparing it to the standard of League One and League Two in England. Whilst speaking to Alan Brazil on TalkSPORT, the midfielder slammed the standard of football in Scotland saying he couldn’t adjust to such a low standard.
The Rangers fans propping our bar up don’t have many memories of Barton in the Rangers blue, but the memories they have aren’t very positive ones. The ex-Manchester City and Newcastle man lasted just five months in Glasgow, playing in only five games for the Ibrox club, including a 5-1 drumming at the hands of Celtic at Parkhead. Given the troublesome midfielder’s time in Scotland wasn’t even the least bit successful, Scottish football fans have had a good laugh out of Barton’s comments.
The Scottish Premiership is set to be competitive again for the first time in a number of years, as Rangers look to get back to their best. The Bluenoses are sitting second in the table, ten points behind Celtic, although Celtic have a game in hand and can stretch that lead to 13 points. Whilst the league looks all but wrapped up, Rangers still have a chance to get one over their noisy neighbours in the Scottish Cup. The teams meet in the semi-final next month and our resident Gers will be hoping they can take another step towards rivalling the Bhoys in Green with a win.

He may be right that the standard is not top class but when he was made to look poor in it then maybe should pipe down, shouldn’t even be employed in sporting industry while serving a ban like he is
