After two years of relegation, new owner Stewart Donald and new boss Jack Ross, will be hoping that they have a much better season than in recent years.
While managing to shift some of the dead wood such as Lamine Kone, the club have brought in 12 new players to give Jack Ross a good chance of winning promotion back to the Championship.
Their chances of promotion got off to a great start as the Black Cats beat Charlton Athletic 2-1, thanks to a Lynden Gooch last-gasp header to snatch the win.
The win followed on from some superb transfer business which Sunderland continued today. The club announced this morning the signing of former Wigan man, Max Power.
He will sign on an initial loan deal with a view to making it permanent in January.
A classy midfielder, Power will add some great depth to the squad and it’s safe to say that plenty of Sunderland fans were happy with the deal.
Here’s what they had to say on Twitter…
You’ll do for me Bonny lad. Max Power taking us right up the football league https://t.co/ULEM0AomLd

If there was any hope at all for Sunderland it’s been fully cemented after we signing players named Max Power. Especially after @CraigDavison1 told me last night he knocked his first ever wank out to a Max Power magazine. Priceless.

So we’re getting Wigan’s Max Power and we’ve given them Darrn Gibson, James Vaughan and Callum Mcmanaman. I’d have been happy with a wagon wheel for all 3 of them
