Ever since their disappointing loss to Liverpool over the course of the weekend, the Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern have needed some cheering up to say the very least. 

While this season has looked so promising at times, Mauricio Pochettino’s team always seem to fall just short in the big games, so any real aspirations of winning a first Premier League title seem a tad too ambitious right now.

Those on Hotspur Way are, naturally, rather down in the dumps because of this and it seems the only thing to lift spirits amongst our north London locals is the idea of big money arrival in the summer. With that in mind, recent links with a move for Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha have gone down a storm.

He’s been thoroughly impressive for the Eagles ever since he left Manchester United on a permanent basis and his searing pace would be a wonderful asset to Spurs’ ranks, but these aren’t the only reasons his arrival would be much celebrated.

With that in mind, here are THREE reasons this would be a great signing.

The Pochettino Effect

Ok, granted, Zaha recently switched his allegiance to the Ivorian national side, though has a cap for the English team in a friendly. For the most part, the former Cardiff City loanee is an English talent, having spent the formative years of his footballing career in south London.

Mauricio Pochettino has a wonderful record when working with burgeoning talents, such as Dele Alli and Harry Kane, and Zaha’s natural talent will surely stand him in good stead under the Argentine.

Variety

When Spurs are at their worst, Dele Alli pushes too high and leaves too much of a gap between the midfield and attack. As wonderful a talent as Christian Eriksen is on his day, the Dane will then take too long to move the ball on and the buildup play becomes all too predictable.

Zaha is a box of tricks in the final third, potentially helping Spurs find the sort of variety in attack that made them so exciting last term.

Lamela Replacement

Just what is going on with Erik Lamela remains unclear, though his absence is a notable one. While Zaha is not a like-for-like replacement for the galloping South American, he’d help provide more of a natural winger threat should the former Roma man continue to miss out.
