Roy Hodgson is hopeful of striking a deal with Reading, and is ready to smash the baggies transfer record to land Republic of Ireland international Shane Long.
The hit man set the championship alight last season, as he bagged 23 league goals helping the Royals reach the play off final.
Long, who currently has a year remaining on his contract is all but certain to vacate the madejski this summer as his impressive form has caught the eye of a handful of top flight clubs including, Wolves, Everton and Newcastle.
The Daily Mail has indicated Reading will only part with their prized asset for the £10m asking price.
West Brom are thought to be looking more in the region of £8m for the want-away star. If any of the above fail to match, or table that offer, then you have to feel the Royals well and truly have their hands tied. It’s either sell now, or watch him walk on a free next summer…
I’m certain we will see him in the Premiership next season. Where is another matter? One thing’s for sure, Hodgson must be licking his lips at the prospect of Long teaming up with Odemwingie to form a deadly duo up top.
We shall see…
