Blackburn’s young talent Phil Jones has revealed he would like to keep his options open when it comes to where he will kick off the new campaign.
The revelation has alerted the dominant forces in the premiership, in a list that has seen Liverpool join the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, City and United set to battle it out for his assistance.
The 19 year old fan favourite signed a contact extension in the middle of last season tying him to Rovers until 2016, but a £16 million get out clause could finally cut the apron strings from the club he joined just aged 11, if any of the big guns come knocking meeting the demand.
Rovers boss Steve Kean is hopeful to keep hold of the Lancashire club’s own product for at least another season, and has told the U’21 England international he sees him as a future captain at Eawood Park.
No offer has actually been placed on the table as of yet, but the Dailymail has reported Liverpool and Arsenal are favourites, with Jones preferred destination thought to be Anfield.
The ambitious youngster, who has been compared to John Terry, is away on International duty representing the U’21’s at the European Championships in Denmark from Wednesday.
I think it is only a matter of time before the money starts flooding through the gates at Eawood and the competition to goad the highly-rated defender in different directions begins as the elite few are certain to request his signature.
