Jose Mourinho will not look to break United’s 80-year-old record of having a youth academy player named in every matchday squad. Despite, following his appointment, many of our punters believing that Mourinho wouldn’t give youth a chance at Old Trafford, he seems to be fully invested in the Red Devils’ long-standing policy.

Our regulars like Mourinho’s idea of, if a United graduate impresses enough to make it into the first team, they’ll know it’s not just for a cameo 10-minute stint in a meaningless game. Mourinho’s policy is, in order to promote an academy player he must be there to be a first-team fixture and be able to contribute towards the betterment of the team.

Many will be looking to follow in the footsteps of the class of ’92 and more recently Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard.

Scott McTominay

Having already made his debut this season, taking advantage of a United midfielder starved of players due to injury and suspensions, Scott McTominay shone in the Old Trafford limelight.

Although Mourinho’s initial plan would be to try and extend the contracts of his many midfielders that are expiring in the summer like Juan Mata, Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini and Micheal Carrick, he could have a ready-made replacement already within the ranks for next season, just waiting in the wings.

Many have tipped McTominay to be a future Captain of United, which is a bold claim for such a young player, but such is the quality of this midfielder he’s held in very high regard.

Andreas Pereira

Despite being out on loan at La Liga side Valencia currently, there’s growing talk of a return to United this January. Pereira is considered a huge talent for the future within the walls of Old Trafford and many believe it’s time he started to gain some valuable first-team minutes.

A very creative talent, he looks the part in a United shirt and seems to be a player the fans would love to watch from the terraces. Now, it’s time for Mourinho to let the Brazilian have the platform he needs in which to grow into the player many believe he can be.
