2 massive reasons why Chelsea seriously need to revive interest in Biabiany this summer

Chelsa have been linked with a few strange transfer in recent years, and for the Blues in the Transfer Tavern – a reported January move for Jonathan Biabiany was the strangest in a while…

As revealed by his agent, via Calcio Mercato, the Blues were reportedly keen on the winger – and whilst it was a deal that made little sense in January – could it actually be worthwhile in the summer?

After all, a lot can change between now and the end of the season, and with Antonio Conte likely to invest pretty heavily in the summer, a move for Biabiany could be just the ticket for the Italian boss.

It might not be a very popular move amongst the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern, but Conte might just be on to something.

With that said, here are 2 massive reasons why Chelsea seriously need to revive interest in Biabiany this summer…

 Eden Hazard

All signs at present are pointing towards an Eden Hazard departure this summer, and should that be the case – a Biabiany-shaped hole will immediately appear within the Chelsea first team.

Sure, the pair aren’t of the same level of quality, but there aren’t many players in Europe that are of equal quality to Eden Hazard – so Chelsea are likely going to have to downgrade if he is sold either way.

Biabiany would be an affordable short-term option for Antonio Conte, and given how well the Italian has done at bringing the best out of average players – you would think that he will be a success at Stamford Bridge.

 Depth

If Hazard does stay, then Chelsea would do well to bring Biabiany in as an option for depth.

The Blues aren’t blessed with a lot of depth offensively, with the trio of Hazard, Willian and Pedro currently competing for 2 positions.

Next season especially, with the increased focus on fixture congestion, Chelsea will need more depth – and Biabiany.

Is he flashy or particularly exciting? No – but he is a great option to have.
