2 transfer targets Rangers must have kept an eye on during the international break

Share

Rangers fans here at the Tavern impressed with recent performances but are eager for more signings to challenge at the summit.

Rangers of recent weeks have enjoyed an impressive start to the season with 14 points coming from their opening 8 games as they sit in 3rd place of the Premiership table. However, many pundits here believe that Ibrox still isn’t the same rocking place it once was.

Indeed, the locals here believe that in the 8 games played to leak 11 goals isn’t what any successful trophy hunting side is required to do, so feel that this is the area of great improvement. Although the Glasgow side have managed to notch 17 goals in their opening 8 games, only 8 goals have come from the strike force, with 6 of these being from the same player. So with Kenny Miller nearly turning 38 years of age is it time to look elsewhere?

Many feel that with no European connections this season, this Rangers side should be pushing the top two. With the addition of a couple of quality signings to boost the mood in the camp, who’s to say Rangers cant reach those heights again?

Here are 2 players that the Landlord believes can push Rangers to where they belong.

DANNY BATHH

Wolves rock Danny Bathh has proven to be a valuable asset for them over the past 5 years as he develops his qualities both as a captain and as a player, proving to be one of the more experienced professionals at the age of 27.

The one thing that Rangers lack is a real leader with Bruno Alves edging towards the end of his illustrious career.

With the big spending Wolves have dived into during the summer transfer window, it’s left Bathh being a regular fixture on the substitutes bench. So, with him seeking regular first-team football,  Ibrox may well be the place for him.

Danny Bathh, who has just played his 200th game for Wolves offers solidity at the back but is also a real threat from set pieces with him notching 13 goals in this time, which can only benefit a side like Rangers who enjoy throwing a set piece into the box.

LEON CLARKE

Leon Clarke, one of England’s most used footballers. The 32-year-old experienced Blades striker – who seems to get better with age – has always had an eye for goal but has only just found his feet in recent years.

Scoring 26 goals in 63 games, 4 of which have come in the 11 games played so far for Sheffield United this season, he’s certainly in the goals.

Rangers have always loved fan favourite Kenny Miller, but with him almost 38 years of age and towards the end of his impressive career, Leon Clarke would be the suitable man to take his place.

Pedro Caixinha likes to get Rangers playing a very direct passing type of game with the alternative being to play balls into the strikers for them to hold up play.

Who better than Leon Clarke? He’s built like a machine and has played the role of a target man in all of the previous clubs that he’s been at, so won’t be a stranger when it comes to this.

So Rangers fans, for a man who suits your style of play and always seems to find the net, can this man provide you with a goal scoring outlet week in week out?
