2 players who could follow Alexis Sanchez to Manchester City in January

Manchester City supporters have been in fine voice in the Transfer Tavern this weekend after seeing their team come through another mammoth tussle at the Etihad Stadium, with the Citizens needing an 83rd minute winner to see off struggling West Ham 2-1 to remain eight points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Pep Guardiola’s men have found the going tricky this week in needing late winners over Huddersfield Town and Southampton to maintain their healthy advantage over neighbours Manchester United in the division, yet the Hammers threatened to pull of a shock win at Eastlands on Sunday as Angelo Ogbonna gave them a first half lead. However, the North West outfit hit back as goals from Nicolas Otamendi and David Silva secured a third successive 2-1 victory for the hosts, who in turn kept their eight-point lead over Untied ahead of their mouth-watering showdown at Old Trafford next weekend.

Subsequently, there are many thrilled Citizens fans in the Tavern at present, many of whom are eagerly anticipating their team’s clash with Jose Mourinho’s side next Sunday, albeit there is a Champions League clash with Shakhtar Donetsk before then to contend with.

In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident City fans to get their teeth into, not least a recent report which suggests that the club are ready to make an offer for Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez in the January transfer window.

The 28-year-old’s contract at the Emirates Stadium runs out in the summer and as of yet no extension has been agreed, leaving his future very much unclear heading into the January window, what with Arsene Wenger’s side possibly looking to cash in on the Chilean so they don’t lose him for free in the summer.

And City are one side reportedly lining up a deal, and were Sanchez to indeed move to the Etihad in the New Year, here are TWO other stars who could follow him to the Premier League leaders…

Ryan Bertrand

Benjamin Mendy’s injury has left Man City slightly short in the left-back department, so much so that midfielder Fabian Delph has been playing in that position in recent weeks.

And that’s why Guardiola could target a move for Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand in January, given that the England international has seriously impressed on the South Coast since moving there from Chelsea back in 2014.

The 28-year-old’s efforts has propelled him to number one England left-back at present, and the Citizens are reportedly keen on bringing him to the Etihad Stadium in a move that would certainly bolster their options going into the second half of the season.

Riyad Mahrez

Riyad Mahrez’s efforts for Leicester City in their title-winning campaign of 2015/16 were simply extraordinary, with the Algeria international netting 17 goals and laying on ten assists as Claudio Ranieri’s side achieved the unlikely.

And although last term wasn’t his best, there have been signs that the 26-year-old is getting back to his best form with three goals and five assists for the Foxes this time round, helping them to ninth in the Premier League after 15 games.

Yet the future of the wing wizard has been subject to speculation for a while now, arguably ever since Leicester won the title, and Man City have been linked with a move for Mahrez in January in a bid to bolster their attacking ranks.

And it’s a move they could well look to make come the New Year.
