2 players who could follow Emerson Palmieri to Liverpool in January

Liverpool supporters have been reasonably satisfied in the Transfer Tavern this season after seeing their side make a solid start to the new season, with the Reds well placed in the Premier League and Champions League ahead of the remainder of the campaign.

Jurgen Klopp’s men picked up three successive league victories prior to their meeting with champions Chelsea on Saturday, and looked on course for another three points when former Blue Mohamed Salah gave them the lead midway through the second half. However, the Reds were unable to see it out as substitute Willian’s floated effort sailed over goalkeeper Simon Mignolet five minutes from time, thus securing a point for Antonio Conte’s side on a weekend in which Klopp’s Liverpool slipped to sixth in the division following Arsenal’s 1-0 win at Burnley on Sunday.

Subsequently, there have been some frustrated Liverpudlians in the Tavern over the weekend, but many still retain much faith in their side ahead of the rest of the campaign, what with many encouraging and positive performances in recent weeks.

Elsewhere, there has been plenty for our resident Reds fans to get their teeth into, not least recent reports linking them with a January move for Roma left-back Emerson Palmieri.

The 23-year-old made the move to the Italian giants back in 2015 but has struggled with injury so far this season, with a cruciate ligament rapture back in May restricting him to just 61 minutes of action this term, which came for the club’s junior side against Inter Milan last week.

And the highly-rated Italy international was linked with a move to Anfield over the summer before injury put a stop to any potential move, although his recent return to fitness has reportedly brought the Reds back into the race, with Roma reportedly ready to let him leave in the winter window.

And were the defender to make the move to Merseyside, here are TWO other stars who could follow Palmieri to Liverpool in the New Year…

Javier Mascherano

Liverpool’s defensive shambles on Tuesday night against Sevilla has once again called into question whether Klopp will seek to bolster his ranks in the January transfer window.

And one man who could make the move to Anfield, or indeed back in his case, is Barcelona defender Javier Mascherano, who has since leaving Merseyside back in 2010 gone on to become one of the best centre-backs in European football.

The Argentina international has played 331 games for the Spanish giants in the last seven years and in that time has won four La Liga titles and three Champions League crowns, yet his time at the Nou Camp could be coming to an end in the near future.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for the 33-year-old, what with his contract up in 2019, and given their clear defensive issues, it’s a move they should look to make in the New Year.

Suso

Suso came up through the ranks at Liverpool but managed just 21 senior appearances for the club, before moving on in the summer of 2015 to reinvigorate his career.

And reinvigorate his career he has done by scoring 13 goals and laying on 18 assists in just 64 games for Italian giants AC Milan, six goals and six assists of which have come this term to underline his excellent recent form.

And the 24-year-old has been linked with a return to Anfield in the coming transfer windows as Klopp seeks to bolster his midfield ranks, and with the future of duo Emre Can and Philippe Coutinho far from certain, it’s a deal they could look to strike in 2018.
