Leeds United supporters were left to drown their sorrows in the Transfer Tavern over the weekend after seeing the Yorkshire giants lose 2-1 at home to Sheffield United on Friday night, thus suffering a fifth defeat in seven Championship matches.

Thomas Christiansen’s men have struggled for form recently but were still well-lodged inside the play-off places, and knew that victory over Chris Wilder’s Blades at Elland Road would have put them to within a point of their Yorkshire rivals. Yet they were unable to get the three points as goals from Billy Sharp and David Brooks either side of a Kalvin Phillips equaliser secured a 2-1 win for the visitors, thus propelling them to the top of the Championship, and leaving Leeds back in fifth place in the table.

Thus, several of our resident Leeds fans have been far from happy in the Tavern this weekend, what with their side losing to their Yorkshire rivals but also failing to snap out of a testing run of form, which has seen them pick up just six points from a possible 21 and thus fall off the pace of the automatic promotion places.

However, reports at the end of last week may well have encouraged those hardy Leeds supporters lining up at the bar, as they suggested that the club were interested in a move for Sturm Graz midfielder James Jeggo.

The 25-year-old Australian has been playing his trade at the Austrian club since 2016 and has gone from strength to strength in recent times, having started their last four league games in a row to help the club maintain their position at the top of the Austrian Bundesliga.

But his contract situation, which has seen him snub a new one, has reportedly attracted the interest of several Championship sides, including Leeds, especially given that his current deal expires in the summer and thus he could pen a pre-contract agreement in the New Year.

And should he make the move to Elland Road in 2018, here are TWO other stars who could follow him to the Yorkshire giants…

Yosuke Ideguchi

It seems to have gone a bit quiet on the Yosuke Ideguchi front in recent times, but Leeds United were reportedly holding an interest in the young Gamba Osaka midfielder last month ahead of a possible move.

The 21-year-old has been playing his trade at the Japanese top-flight side since 2013 and in that time has scored nine goals and laid on ten assists in 92 appearances for the club, five goals and nine assists of which have come in 2017 to help them to tenth place in the J1 League.

Thus, it’s clear that the Japan international has gone from strength to strength this year, and it’s form which has reportedly attracted the interest of Christiansen’s Leeds, with a January move potentially in the offing.

And although Belgian side Sint-Truiden are also thought to be in the running, Leeds’ promotion ambitions and financial power may be enough to lure Ideguchi to England as opposed to Belgium.

Cyle Larin

Leeds have hit something of a wall in recent weeks with five defeats in their last seven Championship games, so reinforcements do appear necessary if they are to sustain a Premier League promotion challenge, either this term or in the future.

And having sold Chris Wood, scorer of 27 league goals last season, to Burnley during the summer, it’s clear that more striking options could seriously benefit Christiansen and his team, so a move for Orlando City forward Cyle Larin wouldn’t go amiss.

The 22-year-old has been in wonderful goal-scoring form in Major League Soccer this year with 12 goals in 28 games for the club, which added to his 14 last season and a staggering tally of 17 the campaign before.

However, the Canada international recently opened the door for a move to Europe and Leeds are one side reportedly keeping tabs on the young forward, and with the Yorkshire giants clearly struggling for depth and options in that department, it’s a move they must look to complete.
