2 players who could follow Suso to Liverpool in January

Liverpool supporters have been in high spirits in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing the Merseyside giants hit a great run of form prior to the international break with emphatic victories over Huddersfield Town, Maribor, and West Ham.

Jurgen Klopp’s men eased past David Wagner’s Terriers 3-0 to begin the week as they meant to go on, as they then comprehensively swept aside Maribor 3-0 in the Champions League a few days later to move top of Group E with just two rounds of matches to go. And that set them up perfectly for their trip to struggling West Ham just before the two-week interruption for internationals, and they produced another fine performance to batter the East London outfit 4-1 at the London Stadium, with a brace from the in-form and inspirational Mohamed Salah setting the Reds on their way to another three points.

Thus, there have been plenty of delighted Liverpudlians in the Tavern this week, many of whom are already looking forward to the return of Premier League action this weekend, which sees their team take on Mauricio Pellegrino’s Southampton at Anfield on Saturday.

In the meantime though, there has been plenty of transfer speculation for our resident Reds supporters to get their teeth into this week, not least recent reports which suggest that Liverpool could seek to re-sign Suso from Italian giants AC Milan.

The 23-year-old came up through the ranks at Anfield but went on to make just 21 first team appearances for the club, before eventually leaving for Italy back in 2015 in a bid to kickstart his career.

And he has done just that at the San Siro with a string of impressive performances for the Serie A giants, so much so that Klopp’s men are reportedly looking to re-sign the Spaniard in the coming transfer windows.

And if the Merseyside giants do indeed get a deal done for Suso, here are TWO other stars who could follow him to Liverpool in the New Year…

Leon Goretzka

Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka has been making great strides at the Bundesliga outfit in the last few years, but looks set for a move away in the near future given that he has yet to sign a new deal at the club, with his current one due to expire in the summer.

The 22-year-old bagged five goals and five assists in 30 league games for the German side last season to help them to a tenth place finish in the Bundesliga, and with four goals in just nine matches this time round, he doesn’t appear to be letting up.

And it’s form which has attracted much interest from the Premier League, with Arsenal, Tottenham, and Liverpool all reportedly interested, yet it’s Klopp’s men who have reportedly stole a march on their rivals by agreeing a January deal for Goretzka.

Thus, the Germany international could well be making his way to Anfield in the New Year.

Javier Mascherano

33-year-old Javier Mascherano enjoyed three years at Liverpool between 2007 and 2010, yet has since become one of the best defenders in European football at Barcelona.

The Argentina international has played 331 games for the Spanish giants and in that time has helped them win four La Liga titles, four Copa del Reys, and indeed two Champions League crowns, one of which coming under Pep Guardiola and the other under Luis Enrique.

And in that time Mascherano went from being an excellent defensive midfielder at Liverpool to an outstanding centre-half at the Nou Camp, yet he has been recently linked with a possible return to Anfield.

And it’s a move that, although he is 33 years of age, would certainly bolster Klopp’s defensive ranks, as well as brining genuine trophy-winning experience to the Merseyside club should it take place in January.
