Manchester City supporters have been in fine voice in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their side keep their quadruple hopes alive by easing past Burnley 4-1 in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola’s men are streets ahead in the race for the Premier League title while they also breezed through their Champions League group, alongside a run to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup where they face Championship side Bristol City in the first leg this week. And although Guardiola continues to play down talk of the quadruple, it remains firmly on after his team came from behind to beat Sean Dyche’s Clarets on Saturday, with a brace from Sergio Aguero as well as strikes from Leroy Sane and Bernando Silva booking their spot in the fourth round.

Subsequently, there have been many buoyant Citizens fans in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are getting excited about what their side could go on to achieve this season, both domestically and on the European stage.

In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident City fans to discuss in the last few days, not least recent reports linking them with a move for Leicester City defender Harry Maguire.

The 24-year-old only made the move to the King Power Stadium during the summer but has hit the ground running in the East Midlands, starting all 22 of their Premier League games so far, and impressing in the heart of Claude Puel’s backline.

And his displays have reportedly attracted the attention of City boss Guardiola, and were Maguire to indeed make the move to the Etihad Stadium this month, here are TWO other stars who should follow him to the North West…

Ryan Bertrand

Left-back Ryan Bertrand made the permanent move to Southampton back in 2015 after enjoying a loan spell at the club a year before, and he has since gone from strength to strength to become England’s number one in that position.

The 28-year-old won the Champions League with Chelsea but otherwise struggled to convince of his abilities at Stamford Bridge, yet he has certainly done so in the last few years to become one of the most talented left-backs in the country.

And with Manchester City likely to be without Benjamin Mendy for much of the rest of the season, a move for a left-back could well take place this month, and Guardiola could do a lot worse than firm up his reported interest in Bertrand in the coming weeks.

Inigo Martinez

Inigo Martinez came up through the ranks at Spanish side Real Sociedad, and has since gone on to play 238 games for the club since his debut back in 2011.

And the 26-year-old must be doing something right as Man City were reportedly interested in the versatile defender over the summer, interest they appear to have retained heading into the winter window.

And with Martinez able to play left-back as well as centre-back, and with City arguably lacking sufficient depth in both positions, it’s a deal Guardiola should like to strike up come the January 31 deadline.
