Everton supporters have been pretty deflated in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side bow out of the FA Cup last weekend courtesy of a 2-1 defeat away at Merseyside rivals Liverpool.

Sam Allardyce’s men went into their clash with the Reds having failed to win any of their preceding four Premier League matches, with scoreless draws with Chelsea and West Brom backed up by successive defeats at the hands of Bournemouth and Manchester United. And the Toffees suffered a third consecutive loss in all competitions and a second third round FA Cup exit in three years as goals from James Milner and Virgil van Dijk either side of a Gylfi Sigurdsson equaliser were enough to book Liverpool’s place in round four, meaning Everton’s wait for a first FA Cup title since 1995 will have to go on another year.

Consequently, there have been some despondent Evertonians in the Tavern this week, many of whom are hoping their team can bolster their ranks in the January transfer window, especially given that a European place could well be achievable come the end of the season.

In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Toffees supporters to discuss, not least recent reports suggesting that they are favourites to land Arsenal’s Theo Walcott this month.

The 28-year-old has dramatically fallen down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium this season in earning just 49 minutes of Premier League football, plunging his future at the club into doubt given there is World Cup to come at the end of the season.

And Everton are reportedly leading the chase for the forward’s signature, and if Walcott were to indeed make the move to Merseyside, here are TWO other stars who could follow him to Goodison Park…

Steven N’Zonzi

English football fans will know Steven N’Zonzi from his time at Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City, yet the midfielder has since gone from strength to strength with Spanish side Sevilla.

The 29-year-old helped the La Liga outfit win the Europa League back in 2016 and played a key part in their fourth place finish in the Spanish top-flight last term, yet has since fallen down the pecking order following a reported spat with former manager Eduardo Berizzo.

And Everton are one side reportedly keen on bringing the Frenchman back to England, in a move which would certainly bolster their midfield ranks ahead of the second half of the season.

Olivier Giroud

Cenk Tosun may well have made the move to Goodison Park during the January window, but it remains to be seen how quickly he can adapt to English football and thus start producing his best form.

As such, Allardyce may seek to resurrect a move for Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud who, like Walcott, has struggled for regular gametime this season, having managed just one Premier League start for Wenger’s side.

And with a World Cup around the corner and the chance of making the France squad, the 31-year-old will be well aware that first team football is vital in making Didier Deschamps’ team, and a move to Everton, who were keen on him during the summer, could well give him those regular minutes.
