In arguably one of the most bizarre developments, reports have circulated this month that Chelsea are considering a deal for Christian Benteke and our Blues punters in the Transfer Tavern don’t know what to think about it.
The Belgian has been somewhat of a flop for Liverpool this season just gone and looks a shadow of his former self.
At Aston Villa he was the main reason they stayed up, smashing defenders out of the way and cracking home volleys like he was at the park, but it’s all gone wrong at Anfield and rumours of him leaving have been rife for some time.
Chelsea are embarking on a new era under Antonio Conte and changes are expected at the club.
A woeful 2015/16 saw the Blues put in the worst title defence of the Premier League era as Jose Mouinho was shown the door in December.

Pro 1 – Aerial Threat
Regardless of what’s happened to him this season Christian Benteke is always going to fancy his chances in an aerial duel.
The big Belgian is a real power house when he’s in the mood and would be the closest thing to Didier Drogba at the Bridge since the Ivorian icon moved on.
Give him the right service and Benteke will usually profit, unfortunately at Liverpool he’s been starved of such opportunities.
Con 1 – Confidence Player
This season at Liverpool has shown that the Belgian clearly gets bothered by a poor run.
He never really set the world alight for the Reds this season and gradually he became more conservative with the shots he tried.
In a pre-season friendly he scored an absolute corker followed by an acrobatic effort at Old Trafford early in the season but as his moral dropped so did his willingness to shoot.
Pro 2 – Shooting Ability
Whilst he’s not found his scoring touch at Liverpool there’s no doubt about his threat when his head is in the right place.
Benteke has scored a number of memorable goals in his Premier League career and that cannot be overlooked.
He has the ability to score screamers he just needs the game time and service, perhaps Chelsea are willing to offer that.
Con 2 – Lack of Movement
Confident or not Benteke is not what you’d call an extremely mobile player.
He stays within the width of the eighteen yard box most of the time and whilst that’s not going to work for Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, it could still come off in West London.
Again Drogba was never the most industrious player in the world but that didn’t stop him becoming a hero and maybe just maybe Benteke could do the same – time will tell.
