The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have been expecting big things from Ruben Loftus-Cheek…
It’s definitely fair to say that Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s season has not gone to plan. An emerging talent under Jose Mourinho, Loftus-Cheek has been in and around the Blues’ first team for years – and this year he was expected to finally become a regular.
In all competitions, he has made just 6 appearances this year, which, simply put, is not good enough.
A loan deal could make sense for him, then, as he looks to build up some first team experience – and if Sport Bild are to be believed – that could just come his way.
The Englishman has reportedly been shortlisted by German side Borussia Monchengladbach – with the Bundesliga outfit seemingly keen to bring him to the club.
It is certainly a deal that would make a lot of sense. Given that Loftus-Cheek’s starts have come solely in cup competition so far this year, a move to Germany could offer him a chance at more regular game time.
A move for Loftus-Cheek would, of course, put him in similar footsteps to Andreas Christensen, who is coming to the end of a loan spell with the club. He looks destined to return to the Chelsea first team next season, and could Loftus-Cheek follow on a similar path?
Loftus-Cheek is expected to get a run-out against Wolves in the FA Cup next weekend, as he looks to impress Conte.
