Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have found their voices over the past week having seen their side produce the goods on the field.

Antonio Conte’s men began the week with a crucial 2-1 victory away at Leicester City, with goals from Alvaro Morata and N’Golo Kante securing the three points for the Blues, before they hit six past Qarabag in their opening Champions League group stage match at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday evening.

That victory already gives the West London outfit a decent lead at the top of their group, and more importantly it extended their winning run to four matches in all competitions, although that came to an end on Sunday as they were held to a goalless draw by Arsenal at Stamford Bridge.

Nonetheless, their attentions now turn to their Carabao Cup home clash with Mark Warburton’s Nottingham Forest on Wednesday, and the Championship club will arrive full of confidence having won six of their nine matches this season, including their second round success away at top-flight side Newcastle United last month.

Nonetheless, Conte’s Chelsea will go in as heavy favourites to make it through to the fourth round, and here is the starting eleven which, if picked, could blow the second tier away at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday…

Willy Caballero

Willy Caballero moved to Stamford Bridge during the summer following the expiration of his contract at Manchester City, yet hasn’t appeared for the Blues at all in their six games so far this season.

However, their clash with Nottingham Forest on Wednesday should provide the Argentine with his debut for the West London outfit, with manager Conte expected to shuffle his pack given their Champions League commitments either side of Wednesday’s game.

Thus, 35-year-old Caballero is in line for his first appearance for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this week.

Cesar Azpilicueta

Defender Cesar Azpilicueta has captained Chelsea on three occasions this season, and his relentless ability to continue churning out impressively accomplished displays makes him very difficult to rest.

The Spaniard has missed just one of the Blues’ last 80 Premier League matches and appeared in all 47 of their games in all competitions last term, further underlining his status as one of the best and most consistent defenders in English football.

Be it at centre-back, right-back, or wing-back, Azpilicueta will always do a job, and thus expect to see him start against Forest on Wednesday.

Antonio Rudiger

Summer signing Antonio Rudiger was benched in their 6-0 victory over Qarabag in the Champions League last week, and the draw against Arsenal, which could be an indication that he’ll get a run out in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old moved from Italian giants Roma during the summer and has since started four of their five Premier League encounters, albeit did struggle in his first games against Burnley and Tottenham before finding his feet in recent weeks.

More time on the pitch can only help him further integrate into the Chelsea squad, so expect him to get a place in the side against Forest this week.

Andreas Christensen

Andreas Christensen has been one of a few youngsters to have earned Premier League minutes at Chelsea this season, starting their first two games of the campaign.

The 21-year-old, who has been on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach for the last two years, struggled against Burnley but improved massively a week later against Tottenham, before losing his place against Everton.

Nonetheless, the Denmark international played the full 90 minutes against Qarabag, and thus deserves a chance against Forest on Wednesday.

Davide Zappacosta

Deadline day signing Davide Zappacosta announced himself to the Chelsea faithful with a wonderful goal in the 6-0 thumping of Qarabag on Tuesday, and will thus certainly give manager Conte something to think about with regards to team selection.

The 25-year-old moved from Torino in the last knockings of the summer window and earned his Chelsea debut off the bench against Leicester last weekend, before starting, scoring, and assisting in their Champions League success in midweek.

With Victor Moses first choice at the moment down the right-hand-side, Zappacosta may need to use the Forest game as another indication of what he can do in the wing-back position.

Danny Drinkwater

Chelsea landed Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater on deadline day for £35 million, with the Blues seemingly looking to reunite the England international with N’Golo Kante, with whom he struck up a wonderful partnership in helping the Foxes win the league in 2016.

However, injury troubles at the start of the campaign saw the 27-year-old miss the Leicester clash last weekend and the Qarabag encounter in midweek, but he could be in line for his debut against Forest on Wednesday.

Dislodging Kante and Cesc Fabregas from the starting eleven is going to be quite the task for Drinkwater, but a decent effort against Mark Warburton’s men could give Conte something to think about going forward.

Cesc Fabregas

Midfielder Cesc Fabregas has played in the midfield two alongside Kante as well as the two just behind Alvaro Morata at times this season, yet Wednesday may see him play in the former.

The Spain international started the victories over Everton and Qarabag in the deeper role and made two contributions in those clashes, whereas he was unable to register a goal or an assist in the more advanced role against Leicester last weekend.

Nonetheless, the 30-year-old’s quality is undoubted and, with Tiemoue Bakayoko still working his way up to full fitness, Fabregas is likely to get the nod against Forest.

Marcos Alonso

Marcos Alonso continues to show why he is one of the best wing-backs in the Premier League with two goals already to his name this season.

The Spaniard netted an impressive six goals last season for the Blues from the left wing-back area, and is already a third of the way to that tally this time around after his brace saw off Tottenham, the first a magnificent free-kick indicative of his technical ability.

However, the left wing-back area is one position that Chelsea haven’t got loads of depth, which could see Alonso selected to play against Forest on Wednesday.

Pedro

With Eden Hazard coming back from injury and likely to play some part in the coming weeks, it will be up to Pedro to continue reminding Conte of his capabilities.

The Spain international netted in their victory over Qarabag in midweek and also has one assist to his name from three Premier League appearances, this all adding to a fine season last time out which saw the 30-year-old score nine goals and lay on ten assists in 35 league games.

Pedro is a huge asset to Chelsea and someone to rely upon in the forward department, and although he came off at half time against Arsenal due to a suspected injury, he could well get the nod against Forest on Wednesday.

Willian

Brazil international Willian has made an impressive start to the season for the Blues, yet Hazard’s expected return is likely to throw the 29-year-old’s starting position into doubt.

The forward hasn’t netted for the West London outfit yet but has laid on two assists in seven appearances in all competitions, although lost his place against Leicester last weekend to suggest that Conte wants more from the talented ace.

And he will probably get the chance to prove his worth again against Warburton’s Forest on Wednesday.

Michy Batshuayi

Last season was a struggle for Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi, with the Belgium international playing second fiddle to Diego Costa for the entirety of the campaign.

And although Costa is no longer part of things at Stamford Bridge, summer signing Alvaro Morata has hit the ground running to suggest that another tough season is in store for Batshuayi, although he is certainly giving Conte something to think about in the early phase of the term.

The 23-year-old scored in their 6-0 success over Qarabag on Tuesday night and had a big part to play in Chelsea’s riot, and is likely to get another chance to impress against Forest this week.
