The Gunners fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are enjoying the moment, after they downed Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

In what has been a turbulent season for the north London outfit, Sunday’s match was a moment for the Gooners here in the Tavern to saviour, with Wenger beating a Mourinho side for the first time in the Premier League.

It was a comfortable victory for the side, with a number of players really impressing for the Gunners – Rob Holding, Aaron Ramsey and Granit Xhaka particularly standing out.

As is the nature of modern-day football, your next fixture is always sharply round the corner, and the Gunners travel to St Mary’s to face Southampton in the Premier League on Wednesday night.

The Gunners’ chances of securing a top four spot are looking very slim, but Wenger will no doubt be looking to finish the season as best as possible.

GK: Petr Cech

Cech has had a relatively good season for the Gunners, bit it’s evident to our landlord, that the keeper is nowhere near the same level he was when he was at Chelsea.

His commanding aura does make him a valuable asset, especially for young Rob Holding who plays in-front of him the back three.

We expect him to start here against Puel’s side.

CB: Rob Holding

Young Holding has been very impressive in recent weeks and looks like he could be a star in the future.

Many were unsure about him when he joined but it certainly does appear now that Arsene Wenger has got his judgement right, here.

CB: Laurent Koscielny

As captain, Koscielny needs to galvanise his side if they are to put pressure on those above in the race for the top four.

That’ll start with a composed performance at the back against Southampton, then, and keeping a clean sheet.

CB: Nacho Monreal

Monreal has been shoe-horned in as a centre-back at the moment but has done a decent enough job.

Helping keep the likes of Manolo Gabbiadini quiet against the Saints will surely only bolster his confidence further.

RWB: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Much like Victor Moses over at Chelsea, England international Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain looks completely reborn as a right-wing-back.

The 23-year-old has excelled of late, improving his final ball, as was evident in Sunday’s win over Manchester United.

CM: Aaron Ramsey

Another to have impressed against United on Sunday, Aaron Ramsey looks like rediscovering the sort of dynamism that made him such a threat for Wales at Euro 2016.

Excels in breaking behind enemy lines from deep positions.

CM: Francis Coquelin

While Granit Xhaka’s likely absence with an ankle injury will undoubtedly be a miss, Francis Coquelin provides perhaps more defensive discipline next to the roaming Ramsey.

Will need to track the likes of Steven Davis in Southampton’s midfield.

LWB: Kieran Gibbs

May have found a second wind in his Arsenal career as a left-wing-back. A peripheral figure when Arsene Wenger opted to deploy a flat back four, the England international is impressing further up the field.

Wonderfully dynamic in this role.

RW: Alexis Sanchez

Alexis Sanchez is undoubtedly the most talented player in this squad, and he has been fairly impressive for much of the campaign.

Many in the pub think that he will leave the club this summer, so perhaps the Chilean is playing for a big move.

ST: Danny Welbeck

Danny Welbeck was favoured to Olivier Giroud at the weekend, and you can expect the same on Wednesday.

It was a fine performance from the Gunners, and Welbeck is beginning to impress once more.

LW: Mesut Ozil

Mesut Ozil has been disappointing in recent weeks, and the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are beginning to turn on him.

If he wants to stay at the club this summer, a strong end to the season will be demanded. Everything is on the line.
