Both our landlord and punters here in the Transfer Tavern were shocked by the outcome of the Manchester City vs Chelsea game on Saturday and are now keen to see how the Citizens fare this weekend against Leicester City.
Guardiola will be without two key men going into the fixture after the melee that took place towards the end of the game at the Etihad saw both Sergio Aguero and Fernandinho sent off.
If City are to keep close tabs on the Premier League title, then, they’ll need to bounce back with a victory against last season’s surprising champions Leicester City and, despite the Foxes being out of form, it won’t be an easy game.
Without the ever-present pair Fernandinho and Aguero, the City boss will be forced to make some changes to his team.
With that in mind, then, our landlord feels this Manchester City XI can destroy Leicester City this weekend…
GK: Claudio Bravo
The former Barca keeper has had his critics since arriving at the Etihad – a move which saw Joe Hart leave on loan for Torino.
He is still yet to convince us here at the Transfer Tavern, too, but a good performance at Leicester would be a decent start.
CB: John Stones
Currently learning his trade under Guardiola, Stones will be instructed to play from the back as ever!
Despite not having his best game against Chelsea, he’ll still be looking to play it out against the Foxes.
CB: Aleksandar Kolarov
The makeshift centre-back Kolarov has looked relatively assured in that position at times this season.
Again, he didn’t have the best game last time out against Chelsea but with a point to prove he could be vital in stopping Leicester’s front-line.
CB: Gael Clichy
With Vincent Kompany out injured and Nicolas Otamendi suspended City look very short at the back.
We could see, then, Gael Clichy step in to try and ease matters and Leicester may feel they can exploit that.
CDM: Yaya Toure
Many here in the Transfer Tavern thought his time at City was up but he has slotted straight back into Guardiola’s plans and has seemingly worked very hard to get there – why change something that isn’t broken?
CDM: Ilkay Gundogan
The former Dortmund midfielder had an injury when he first arrived at the club but since breaking into the team has looked every bit worth the reputation he had achieved during his time in Germany.
For sure a Gaurdiola style of player with the way he passes the ball around.
LM: Leroy Sane
The young German has had a stop start to his time in England so far having come with a glowing reputation from his time with Schalke.
The 20-year-old still needs to make his mark and a good game against Leicester could cement his place in the team.
CAM: Kevin De Bruyne
Had some great chances against his former club Chelsea last weekend and will look to rectify those missed opportunities this time out.
A world class player and will be key to a City win.
RM: David Silva
A star of the game, the Spaniard has been a brilliant player and arguably the best City player since his arrival in England.
Leicester will need a plan for him because he can make something out of nothing!
ST: Nolito
A great addition by Guardiola and despite his poor discipline thus far, he’s been a quality signing.
He could be vital with Aguero missing from the game.
ST: Kelechi Iheanacho
The young striker seems to score whenever he is on the pitch and he will be vital in the next four games with Aguero suspended.
City will have to turn to the young Nigerian for their source of goals starting with Leicester this Saturday.
