Everton’s season has been an improvement on last year. However, the fans in the Transfer Tavern are still craving for the chance to go into Europe.
Given Everton’s financial boost, it’s easy to see why many fans see their current position a disappointment especially considering how recent results have been below par.
But, with a few massive signings Everton may be able to finally reach European football for the first time since the 2009/10 season.
With the Toffees having the financial backing they could splash the cash and prove to be huge game player in the race for those European spots in January.
We saw them sign the likes of Yannick Bolasie and Idrissa Gueye in the summer and now their fans are wanting more.
So, with that in mind, here are three ambitious January signings Everton should make to secure European football…
Mario Mandzukic
The experienced striker would be an excellent partner for Romelu Lukaku.
Signing a big name like the Croatian would show the whole league and the club’s fans that the Merseysiders are ready to battle for European football. With Paulo Dybala coming back from injury, the chances are that Mandzukic’s appearances will start to become limited at Juventus and so it may be wise to move to the Toffees if he wants first team football.
William Carvalho
The 24 year old defensive midfielder has been performing well for Sporting Lisbon this season, who are currently challenging for the title in Liga NOS. However, the possibility of joining a Premier League club may be to good for the Portuguese international to turn down.
With Gareth Barry reaching the end of his career, Carvalho would be the perfect replacement and the signing would show that Everton are wanting to get into Europe this year.
Mateo Musacchio
The Argentine has helped Villarreal to be near the upper echelons of La Liga this season and has impressed greatly.
With Everton’s new owners possibly looking to invest in January, Musacchio should be somebody they consider. With Phil Jagielka ageing he could be the perfect replacement and due to him being 26, he is still not in his prime. But, the issue is, are Everton willing to spend the money to bring in the commanding centre back?
