With the summer transfer window over and players beginning to show their worth, the Football Transfer Tavern is full of punters talking about the value of their club’s signings, past and present.

Everton fans at the bar have been very happy with their signings this summer, as they brought in the likes of Ashley Williams and Yannick Bolasie, who both seem to have got off to good starts, however not everyone has done so well for them in the past.

For every successful acquisition that lights up stadiums and captures the imagination of fans, there is a flop that is quickly forgotten and the Toffees have definitely had some flops of their own.

Espen Baardsen

The Norwegian goalkeeper played one game for Everton and it didn’t exactly go well.

He conceded four goals in a 4-3 loss to Tottenham Hotspur, who he had actually played for.

Before his move to Everton, Baardsen had been battling Alec Chamberlain for a starting place at Watford and Everton was meant to be the time that he truly announced himself to the Premier League.

That didn’t happen though, as he decided that he had lost interest in football and retired from the game.

Per Kroldrup

Everton had just got themselves into the Champions League, and were looking to make some signings that would help them to have an impact on the competition.

However, things didn’t work out for the club in the Champions League and things definitely didn’t work out for Kroldrup at Everton.

He only played once for the club, with that appearance coming in a 4-0 loss against Aston Villa.

It was said that he wasn’t able to head the ball and his inability to adapt to the Premier League saw him shipped out after a year, going to Fiorentina where he actually did relatively well.

Andy Van der Meyde

After establishing himself at Ajax and Inter Milan, Van der Meyde moved to Everton in 2005 and got the Everton faithful excited.

After seeing him score a screamer against Arsenal in the Champions League, they had high hopes for the Dutchman, however injuries and off field troubles and arguments limited him to just 20 league appearances for the Toffees and his time at the club is now remembered more for what happened off of the pitch, rather than what he was able to do on it.
