The Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern love reminiscing on days gone by when they were the undisputed kings of English and, at times, European football.

They were a truly dominant side in the 70’s and 80’s and picked up trophy after trophy with a number of iconic players and managers cementing themselves in the folklore of the club, and if you’d told people back then about the relatively barren spell that was about to come, they’d have laughed you out of the room.

Nevertheless, that time is still going on as the Reds search for the solution to once again rule in the top flight of English football and the Anfield faithful are very keen to see new heroes replicate the likes of John Barnes and Graeme Souness.

One such player who could is Daniel Sturridge, if he gets a good run of games he could take the Reds far but Liverpool fans have grown up on having two top class forwards leading the line over the years.

Indulge our landlord for a minute then, because here’s the THREE strikers he reckons the Reds fans would want to see play alongside the England man regardless of money and era…

Kenny Dalglish

Arguably the greatest ever to have donned the famous red jersey Dalglish is simply known as the king around Anfield.

He could find himself in pockets of space that very few others could and enjoyed a prolific partnership with Ian Rush which is why he’d work with Sturridge.

Sturridge, like Rush gets in behind and stretches the defence whilst Dalglish could drop off and do some damage.

It’d be a really effective partnership this.

Luis Suarez

We already know what this partnership can do as the two together were simply devastating in 2013/14.

They tried to better one another in every game and that spurred Liverpool to within inches of the Premier League title.

It’s highly unlikely we’ll see them reunited now which is of course sad news to Liverpool fans, but Suarez has somehow gone up more gears since his Anfield days and deserves to be mentioned alongside Messi and Ronaldo.

Kevin Keegan

Many players could have made this list, Fernando Torres, Michael Owen and Robbie Fowler were all top drawer but in terms of making a good partnership with Sturridge, Keegan trumps them all.

A similar player in stature and talent to Dalglish, Keegan just knew where the space was at the right time and how to make use of it and his partnership with John Toshack was something to behold, something similar to what he could forge with Sturridge.
