3 hidden gems currently at Chelsea – Heard of them?

Chelsea are not renowned for bringing through homegrown players; but the Blues faithful here in the Football Transfer Tavern are convinced that will change soon!

Chelsea’s developmental system is one of the most successful in the world, with the Blues regularly winning both national and European competitions throughout the younger age groups.

Our landlord simply cannot get his head around this; if the Chelsea youth team is so good – why have the Blues not brought through any top young players in recent years?

It is the million-dollar question, and the obvious answer is simply because the gap between youth football and first team football is so big.

Nonetheless, one particularly vocal Chelsea fan has been going on for weeks about how change is coming.

He is convinced that there are a few special talents in the Chelsea youth team that all have the potential to be the next big thing in the Premier League.

Names like Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Dominic Solanke are obviously expected to do well with the Blues – but what about the youngsters that even some of the most die-hard of Chelsea fans haven’t heard of?

Our landlord is yet to be convinced, but he’s given the Chelsea faithful an opportunity to reveal who these so-called unknown Chelsea stars actually are.

With that said, here are THREE hidden gems currently at Chelsea – heard of them?

Tammy Abraham

If this was being written two months ago – the vast majority of people would have had absolutely no idea who Tammy Abraham is – but that notion is starting to change very quickly.

Abraham is a young Chelsea forward, currently just 18 years old – and he has been making waves through the Chelsea developmental system for several years now.

A prolific front man, Abraham has often been paired with Dominic Solanke in recent years – to absolutely devastating effect.

He recently joined Bristol City on loan, and this is where things have started to change for the striker.

He has made an absolutely electric start to life with the Robins, scoring 4 goals in his first 5 games with club – immediately endearing himself to the Bristol City faithful here in the Tavern.

If that form continues he will no longer be a hidden gem; he will no doubt quickly become one of the most well-known players in Chelsea’s squad.

 Charlie Colkett

Like Tammy Abraham, Charlie Colkett is currently embarking on a lower-league loan move; and the Chelsea faithful here in the Football Transfer Tavern are backing him to come back as the complete package.

Colkett has drawn comparisons to Chelsea ace Cesc Fabregas by Blues fans here in the Transfer Tavern, with the young midfielder sharing a midfield position with the Spaniard maestro.

Like Fabregas, Colkett’s game is based with the ball at his feet – and he is able to pick a pass seemingly out of nowhere.

He can play up and down the midfield, much like Fabregas can – and the young Englishman has been captain for his club on several occasions.

Expect big things from this young English midfielder.

Jay Da Silva

Jay Da Silva is a talented full-back that has been a key part of the Chelsea youth system for years.

Though small in stature, Jay Da Silva is a player beyond his years, and has cemented himself in any side that he has played in throughout his time with the Chelsea academy.

He regularly plays for the Chelsea u-21’s despite being just 18-years-old, and his career looks set to go from strength to strength.

With Chelsea often struggling for full-back depth, expect Jay Da Silva to make a breakthrough in the Chelsea first team sooner rather than later.
