3 high-profile names Manchester City should consider targeting this week

Manchester City have had a decent start to the Premier League campaign under Pep Guardiola but it’s clear the best is still yet to come from his squad of players.

Their fans here in the Tavern remain optimistic that a place in the Champions League could still be in sight come the end of the campaign, but it’s going to be tough for Pep Guardiola and his men.

The race at the top of the table has never been tighter, and a few of their supporters believe hefty investment might be needed this January if they are to push the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool right to the very end.

And it seems there are certainly some players on the top of some of our City fans’ wishlists this week – and with a huge chest of money always available for transfers, bringing in some top quality talent is never an issue for the Citizens.

So with that in mind, here’s 3 players Pep Guardiola should be targeting this week…

Aymeric Laporte

He’s long been identified as one of the brightest young centre-backs in Spanish football and we’re tipping Aymeric Laporte to finally make the big-money move to the Premier League this January.

With City bouncing between centre-back options and the likes of Kolarov really not performing as well as he should be when being drafted in, Laporte would be a fantastic option to come in and really steady the ship.

With Vincent Kompany’s injury crisis still riddling his season, City need a strong option to fill in at the back and Laporte would be the ideal man to do so.

Theo Hernandez

He might not be the best-known footballer in the world right now but there’s certainly plenty of optimism that Theo Hernandez has the potential to turn into one of the finest left-backs in football.

He’s currently on the books at Atletico Madrid and is serving a loan deal at Alaves this season, where he’s been impressing in the first-team.

With Gael Clichy and Aleksandar Kolarov not getting any younger, a new talent in at left-back would really fit the bill for the Citizens as the Pep Guardiola project continues.

Virgil van Dijk

He’s been one of the standout players in the first-half of the Premier League campaign and in the next couple of weeks, expect the fight for Virgil van Dijk to intensify sevenfold.

He is easily one of the Premier League’s best, and a big money move is sure to come soon.

But with the Saints keen to hang onto one of their most prized assets, the fight for his signature could become an extremely long and pricey affair. He’d be worth the money though.
