You could forgive the Manchester City fans feeling that change is needed following their trophyless season.

The Citizen’s optimism following the appointment of Pep Guardiola has certainly died down and the Spanish boss is now expected to back some major changes to his squad in the summer transfer window. The City fans in the Tavern expect trophies and Guardiola will have to deliver next season in order to prove he is not a flop in English football.

Whilst success is in demand, our landlord has reiterated that City have plenty of dead wood that is preventing their club from really cutting themselves loose in the transfer market, especially when you look at the wages these players are on.

Our resident City fans agree with our landlord but this has not stopped them from discussing further who they’d like to see leave the Etihad. The squad is not getting any younger and a real change is needed within the club’s playing squad in order to stake a claim in domestic football as well as the continental competition where the Citizens have been so disappointing since their influx of cash from the Arabian owners.

So, with that said and various names flying around the Tavern – let’s take a look at the three outcasts that need to be axed or loaned out by Guardiola this summer…

Fabian Delph

The English midfielder really has struggled to break into the City team since his move in 2015 from Aston Villa in a move that sparked furious responses from the Villans in the Transfer Tavern.

Delph’s transfer this time around will bring joy to the side he is departing as the Citizens in the Tavern will be quite happy to see the back of Delph, mainly as it will free up space on the wage bill so that their side can sign a player of real pedigree in the centre of midfield.

Our landlord feels the City fans’ assessment of Delph is harsh but does agree that he needs to leave the Etihad in order to resurrect his career.

Fernando

A player deemed more of a waste of space than Fabian Delph is Fernando. The Brazilian midfielder has not impressed the City fans at all since he moved to the Etihad and it is obvious to see that Pep Guardiola does not trust him to play him on a regular basis.

Fernando really needs to be axed by City but our landlord feels that at 29-years-old and a few seasons worth of unimpressive performances under his belt, he will be hard to shift.

Kelechi Iheanacho

Our landlord believes a loan move should be in order to Iheanacho due to the proven goalscoring talents that the Nigerian forward possess. The only reason he believes Iheanacho doesn’t play is due to the preference of Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus in the centre-forward position.

Nonetheless, there is always room to have a goalscorer on your books and the Citizens in the Tavern are hoping that Iheanacho is retained by the club and sent on loan to really go and prove his obvious talent.
