Here in the Transfer Tavern the Liverpool fans are being quietly optimistic about this season.
They started well with a pulsating 4-3 over Arsenal before their inconsistencies once again arose, with a loss to Burnley at Turf Moor.
Then, the Reds went to White Hart Lane and got a point which was the least they deserved and it’s the way the team have played for the most part that has got the fans excited.
Jurgen Klopp seems to have got a side that carries out his tactics to perfection now with players that he wants, and it always makes for good feeling around a club when the new signings bed in.
That hasn’t always been the case though as our landlord well remembers.
Some players have come to Anfield with big reputations and simply haven’t been up to it, so with a whole host to pick from, it was hard to narrow it down.
Our landlord has though, to THREE of the most over-hyped flops the club has seen…
Alou Diarra
The Frenchman signed for Liverpool from Bayern Munich in 2002 when Gerard Houllier likened him to Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira.
Diarra was not and aside from the fact that he was French that’s where the similarities ended.
He didn’t last long at Liverpool before being shipped back off to France and you can now find him at Charlton Athletic.
Sebastian Leto
Leto was meant to be an exciting left-winger but after issues with passport meant he couldn’t even play in the Premier League he was resigned into Liverpool’s reserves.
The problem was never really resolved ,but he was no great loss as he failed to impress even for the Reds’ second string, and eventually he left for Olympiakos.
He’s now at rivals Panathinaikos.
Dani Pacheco
Robbie Fowler, Michael Owen, Fernando Torres – Dani Pacheco was meant to be the next name in line to be Liverpool’s top striker.
The Spaniard signed in 2007 from Barcelona but couldn’t cut it in the Reds’ first team and soon found himself on loan at Norwich City, Atletico Madrid, Rayo Vallecano and Huesca.
He’s now, surprisingly, on loan at Getafe from parent club Real Betis.
