The Blues have enjoyed a mixed start to the Premier League season so far.
An impressive start has been marred somewhat by a draw at Swansea and a loss at Liverpool – but there is no denying that there has been definite progress at Stamford Bridge since last season.
Antonio Conte has placed a lot of attention on work and training to improve his flailing squad; but our landlord thinks that there are a couple of players in the Chelsea squad that not even a day on the training pitch can improve.
He thinks that several players are simply no longer good enough to don the famous Chelsea blue…
With that said, here are THREE players Chelsea fans need to say bye-bye to in January…
Pedro
Pedro’s spell in London so far has been underwhelming to say the least.
The Chelsea fans in the Tavern were expecting big things when he made the switch from Barcelona to SW6 – but he has failed to live up the hype that came alongside his transfer.
He has been unable to nail down a regular spot in the Chelsea first team, and his form has suffered as a result. He hasn’t made much of an impact from the bench, and if that doesn’t change – he could be made surplus to requirements in January.
A player of his calibre and experience could certainly still carry a fairly high fee; so maybe Conte should look to cash in.
John Obi Mikel
John Obi Mikel is somewhat of a cult-hero amongst the Chelsea faithful in the Football Transfer Tavern – but Mikel’s time in London is seemingly at an end.
After spending over a decade in London, Mikel has won everything there is to win at Stamford Bridge – but in recent years has seen his game time reduce significantly.
That shows no signs of improving, and with his contract set to expire at the end of the season – a sale in January could likely still force several million out of the Nigerian.
It will disappoint the Chelsea faithful in the Tavern – but Mikel’s departure is a necessary one.
Branislav Ivanovic
Contrastingly, this is a move that would no doubt delight the Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern.
The Serbian defender has been very disappointing over the last 18 months or so, and was one of the main reasons why the Blues struggled so badly last year.
The right hand side of the Chelsea defence was consistently exploited last year, and Ivanovic was undeniably a weak spot of the Blues first team last year.
His form, though it has improved, is still not good enough – and it is beginning to look like the Serbian defender is simply past his best.
If Chelsea want to improve – they must sell Ivanovic and buy a top quality replacement.
