The Chelsea fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are anxiously waiting to see if The Blues will get any last minute business done, with the August 31st transfer deadline edging ever closer…
With less than 48 hours to go until the Premier League transfer window slams shut, Chelsea fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern have been boldly claiming who they think their club is going to sign before the deadline.
Outrageous targets like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are a given, whilst many wouldn’t be surprised if they had to settle for Papy Djilobodji v2.0.
The reality, according to our landlord, lies somewhere in between – with the club seemingly desperate to reinforce ahead of the rest of the 2016/17 season.
A host of players have been linked, but could any deals still happen?
With that said, here are THREE players that Chelsea should sign before tomorrow’s 11:30pm deadline
Romelu Lukaku

Whilst any deal for Lukaku at this point looks dead, if Chelsea want a player that can guarantee them goals this season – there is nobody better.
With Loic Remy destined for a move away from Stamford Bridge before tomorrow night; Chelsea are left with just two first team strikers in Diego Costa and Michy Batshuayi – and that is simply not enough for an entire season at the top.
The Blues will never have a better chance to compete for the title than they do this year, with no European football often a deciding factor in the matter.
Since Lukaku started playing regularly in the Premier League he has not been able to stop scoring; and his record would no doubt get even better when playing with the type of players that would surround him at Chelsea.
He will be expensive, no doubt – and the deal might well be impossible; but if Chelsea are serious about their aspirations this season; they need to give Lukaku one more shot.
Stefan De Vrij

With Chelsea’s move for Kalidou Koulibaly seemingly at an impasse, Stefan De Vrij could represent an option of much better economical value.
He is our landlords pick, and it is easy to see why.
At just 24 years old, he represents a long-term solution to Chelsea’s defensive problem – but that is not to mean that he isn’t experienced.
De Vrij has made 30 caps for the Netherlands national side, and has been consistently in the side for Lazio in recent years.
Whilst he may not carry the star power of a Koulibaly or a Varane, our landlord thinks that for the price that he will be available for; there is nobody better.
Ricardo Rodriguez

Chelsea are in desperate need of a left back – and Ricardo Rodriguez fits the bill.
With Baba Rahman now at Schalke on loan, Chelsea have been left with just one recognised left back in Cesar Azpilicueta; and even he isn’t naturally a left-sided player.
Rodriguez has been a standout star in the Bundesliga in recent years, offering solid defensive play and exciting attacking prowess – exactly what The Blues need.
He is well known for his ability with the ball at his feet, able to deliver balls into the box from wide or from a set piece; two traits that Chelsea have struggled to utilise in recent years.
At just 24 years old, Rodriguez could be the long-term solution that the Chelsea fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern have craved since the departure of Ashley Cole, and he could add some much needed consistency to the Chelsea back line.
