Since the arrival of Pep Guardiola much has been made over the selection choice of Sergio Aguero during periods both he and Gabriel Jesus are both fit firing. No doubt he’s a goal machine and one of the club’s longest-serving players, having been there since the start of the evolution.

However, it seems to our punters in the bar that Aguero is not always Pep Guardiola’s cup of tea, with him often preferring to choose Jesus when he’s fit. This has led to much speculation on the Argentine’s future at the club, with many of the regulars believing that this could be Aguero’s last season in the blue of City.

With all that in mind, our landlord has taken it upon himself to have a closer and more in-depth look at why cashing in on Aguero in the summer may be the right timing for everyone involved…

Age

Aguero is close to hitting the 30 mark this year, and with that comes a different perspective upon a player. Guardiola is looking at a team full of youth, pace and plenty of years in the tank so he can form a squad for the seasons ahead.

Since the arrival of Jesus, however much the Argentine’s game has improved, he seems to be the first choice striker. If Aguero is to stay at City, he may have to get used to warming the bench more often, as long as the Brazilian stays fit.

Far too good and expensive for the bench, perhaps City should cash in while they can.

Defensive Contribution

Guardiola is known for his high press setup, for this reason, that is surely why he prefers Jesus to Aguero. The Argentine has adapted his game over the past year or so to try and suit Guardiola’s plans but, the pure intensity of the setup will no doubt catch up with him.

Indeed like many of his ex-teammates who couldn’t keep up, he may be sold on in exchange for a younger model.

Right time to cash in

Aguero has 29 goals in 34 appearances so far this campaign across all League and Cup competitions, furthermore, with a World Cup ahead of the Argentine, his stock could rise even more.

After such a prolific season and if he can impress in Russia, even close to his thirties he could still go for a high price, especially given the current transfer market, so our barman believes.
