Though things have oh so slightly picked up for the West Ham United fans in the Transfer Tavern, there’s little doubt the first campaign in the London Stadium has never really threatened to get off the ground.

The Hammers largely wasted their money over the course of the summer and look like a side almost entirely bereft of ideas going forward, though it’s fair to say their buildup has improved at least.

With that in mind, it’s clear the Irons are in desperate need of a striker in order to spearhead attacks and finally give the claret and blue faithful a hero to love in east London.

The likes of Jermain Defoe and Scott Hogan have been linked with moves, though the most recent name making its way through the rumour mill is that of Celtic’s Moussa Dembele.

Since moving to Glasgow, the Frenchman has been in wonderful form in green and white and really is exciting the West Ham fans in the bar.

It’s quite clear that all West Ham need is someone who can lead the line and provide a strong focal point to their attack.

To that end, Dembele would be perfect.

Having already drawn comparisons with Didier Drogba, the 20-year-old provides pace and power in equal measure and looks like a man just waiting to spearhead a varied attack.

Man for the big occasion

While many naysayers will point out the fact that the SPFL is barely the strongest of leagues, there’s little doubt Dembele has shown up in the big games this term.

Becoming the first man in almost 50 years to notch a league hat-trick against bitter rivals Rangers, he was in good form in the Champions League against Manchester City too.
