Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern were right to worry when midfielder Paul Pogba pulled up earlier on in the season against Basel.

But without their record signing in the side, the United team have gone on to keep their unbeaten opening to the season going and score plenty of goals in the process.

Mourinho has rotated between Herrera, Fellaini and Carrick to accompany the ever-present Matic as part of the midfield two in Pogba’s absence. While reports still don’t give an exact return date for the Frenchman, in the mean time, our punters are enjoying the fringe players getting a chance to prove their worth.

Pogba opened up the season with two goals and two assists in the first four league matches and was showing glimpses of what United had brought to Old Trafford.

Fringe Players Given the Chance

Through Pogba’s injury, United have rotated their midfield pairing giving the less likely fringe players the chance to show their worth of first-team action.

Last seasons player of the year Herrera can stake a claim to be first choice once again and the unorthodox Fellaini brings a different feel to the United side with him in it.

Shows United don’t rely on the big players

Last season United relied heavily on Zlatan Ibrahimovic, this season has more of a squad feel about things and not being centred around the French midfielder to pull the strings.

United have shown that they can more than manage without Pogba in the side and thrive in the attacking third with Rashford, Martial, Mkhitaryan and Lukaku all upping their game.

Pogba will have to up his game

While the French midfielder has been out injured, United have maintained their unbeaten start, scored goals a-plenty and secured six points in the opening two Champions League games.

Pogba will have to show Mourinho why he’s worthy of being a first team starter once again ahead of the fringe players that have come in, in his absence. This can only benefit the team with a point to prove Pogba looking to recapture his early season form.
