Football is very much a learning game, and we here at the Transfer Tavern feel that it wouldn’t hurt for the red side of Manchester to take some tips from the blue half.  

This will no doubt anger the Man Utd fans in the Football Transfer Tavern, but in recent years – Manchester City have been the better football club.

Both in football and non-footballing matters, the Blue half of Manchester has seen major progress – whilst United have faltered.

It is nothing that Jose Mourinho and Man United can’t fix however – but they definitely have some catching up to do.

Sorry United fans, but here are THREE things that Manchester United can learn from Manchester City…

 The Old Guard at United

It has been well documented over time that Manchester United like to maintain their faith in the old guard at the club. It worked in the Fergie era for sure the likes of Scholes, Giggs, Neville and Co – but it’s not quite the case now.

Conversely, City have been more than happy to dispense with their old guard when they lose their form, as seen by the departure of Joe Hart – whilst players like Michael Carrick remain a part of the United first team.

Rooney is a great example of this. He is the player most deserving of being dropped, but it appears that they cannot do it – even if it means playing Paul Pogba out of position in order to pave the way for the Englishman.

It’s time to take the plunge and make some changes like your neighbours.

Women’s Football

We all know that after the success of the England Lionesses side in the last World Cup – the women’s game has risen massively in popularity.

This has, in turn, seen the rise of Manchester City’s women’s team – who have managed to lure some of the greatest female footballers in Europe to Manchester.

With many other Premier League clubs having a women’s team it comes as a surprise that a club of Manchester United stature doesn’t yet have the same.

This has helped to grow the stock at the blue half of Manchester and has brought even more success to the club.

Above all, women’s football is hugely entertaining – and Manchester United are missing a beat by not bringing it to the club.

Ownership

 

Since the Glazer family arrived at Old Trafford, they have very much been at the heart of everything that goes on at the club.

Granted, as club owners – you do have that right; but sometimes it is not the right thing to do.

Sheikh Mansour has taken a relatively low-profile role at Manchester City in recent years, and this has seen the club triumph domestically.

If the Glazer’s spent a little bit more time investing in their club and working with management – as opposed to focusing on the business side of the club – United might have had more success in recent years.

Manchester City’s footballing model is fantastic; United could learn a thing or two.
