The City fans in the Transfer Tavern are drinking in relief today as their club didn’t provide one of the shock results of the opening weekend.

The Premier League has returned to our TV screens and stadiums across the country after what has felt like an eternity.

There were many surprises on the opening day, but one fixture which saw the result that was completely expected was Manchester City’s 2-0 victory against Brighton at the Amex.

Pep Guardiola’s side were held until quite late on in the game by a driven Brighton team in their first ever Premier League game.

However, two late goals from Sergio Aguero and an own goal from Lewis Dunk gave the Sky Blues all three points on the opening day.

It wasn’t a bad performance from Chris Houghton’s side at all and there were times where they could have taken the lead against the former Premier League champions.

With that being said, here are three things we learned from Man City’s 2-0 win over Brighton.

Brighton have enough in them to survive

Brighton’s fans were excellent throughout the entire 90 minutes against City and their fans were rewarded with their side putting up a great fight against Pep’s side.

If the Seagulls continue to play like they did against City then their sheer grit and determination could be enough to drag them across the finish line on the right side of the relegation line.

Kyle Walker could end up looking like a bargain

Manchester City were slated when they dropped £50 million on Tottenham right back, Kyle Walker.

However, his performances during pre-season and especially his performance against Brighton proved that he could eventually prove to be quite the bargain.

Playing slightly further up the field in City’s three back formation, Walker’s attacking prowess was more on display than ever before and he looked dangerous doing it.

More performances like that and those laughing at City will soon quiet down.

Aguero has still got it

Many thought when Gabriel Jesus joined Manchester City that Sergio Aguero’s time as the main man up to for City was coming to an end.

Following on from an injury towards the end of the season for the Brazilian youngster, Aguero worked his way back into the side and treated fans to some great performances.

Aguero was picked in the line-up on the opening day and put in another fantastic performance and bagged the opening goal of the game too.

The 29-year-old has clearly still got it.
