3 transfers Man Utd should look to tie up in the first week of January

Our resident Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are beginning to find their voices again as their team begins to find their rhythm out on the pitch.

So far this season Jose Mourinho has struggled to get a tune out of his Red Devils side with them looking like, at times, they’d barely played football before.

Indeed, some of their new players, in particular, have taken their time to bed in but things seem to be gelling now.

A good win over Spurs and a late victory over Crystal Palace in recent weeks has seen morale get boosted and now, ahead of January, many here by the bar are expecting them to splash the cash once again.

Certainly, our landlord thinks that is exactly what’s going to happen at Old Trafford and he therefore reckons they should act fast within the first week of the window to bring in these three players…

Antoine Griezmann

This would be a real statement and arguably a watershed moment for the Mourinho era at United.

The Frenchman had a sensational season last year for both club and country but has seen things get a little more difficult this year with Atletico Madrid struggling to find what made them so good in 2015/16. Griezmann may want to jump ship in January, then, and with United’s obvious financial power they could easily sign him up.

Victor Lindelof

Eric Bailly looks like he could be a great defender for the club but he needs to shake his injury issues.

Meanwhile, Chris Smalling also has fitness concerned that, unless addressed, could see him replaced by this man. Lindelof has impressed greatly for both Sweden and his club side Benfica and could be part of the next great United defence. He’s no shrinking violet in a physical battle and is only going to get better with him being in his early 20’s.

Dimitri Payet

With West Ham still struggling for form this season many here by the bar think this man could be on his way.

He’s still shown he has the creative flair and ability to conjure something out of nothing this season and that would go down incredibly well with the Old Trafford crowd watching on. He’s approaching the twilight of his career, too, and so if he wants that one big move it could be about to happen next month.
