The Mourinho era has begun at Old Trafford; and it was all going swimmingly well up until last weekend.
United went into Saturday afternoon joint top of the Premier League having won all three of their opening Premier League fixtures against Bournemouth, Southampton and Hull in impressive style; and had already toppled last season’s champions Leicester to claim the Community Shield.
The Manchester derby was the most anticipated in years for United fans.
It was presumed that having entered a new era with new management and a rolex XI that United would signal their return to the big time, with a derby day victory after three tough seasons since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson.
That was not the case however, and instead United were swept away by neighbours Manchester City, slumping to a 2-1 defeat to Pep Guardiola’s impressive new look side.
Mourinho will be hoping that he can put the weekend behind him tonight, however as the Red Devils open their Europa League campaign, visiting Dutch side Feyenoord in the first game of Group A.
