Everton fans have been particularly quiet in the Transfer Tavern during the international break such has been their side’s poor start to the season.

The Toffees have won just two of their opening seven Premier League matches and as such sit 16th in the division, leaving manager Ronald Koeman under increasing pressure to turn things around at Goodison Park.

And alongside a winless start to their Europa League campaign, the Dutchman must find a solution soon or else he could be out of a job, and what better way to start than to get three points away at Brighton on Sunday.

Ultimately, their biggest problem has been their distinct lack of goals, with the Merseyside outfit managing just four so far in the Premier League, two from Wayne Rooney and two from Oumar Niasse.

So it’s hardly surprising that the Toffees have been linked with a move for Arsenal forward Theo Walcott in recent times, with the 28-year-old facing an uncertain future at the Emirates Stadium following his lack of first team football.

The England international has yet to start a Premier League game for the Gunners this term and doesn’t look like forcing his way into Arsene Wenger’s plans anytime soon, and as such speculation has been building surrounding his future, with Everton, Southampton, and West Ham reportedly interested.

And were Koeman’s men able to get a deal done for the forward in January, here are THREE ways in which Everton could line up with the £18 million-rated ace (as per Transfermarkt) in the second half of the season…

Out wide (4-2-3-1)

Walcott has spent much of his time at Arsenal playing wide on the right, and he could look to take that role up at Everton as well.

The forward is remarkably quick and looks to take defenders on, especially when he’s confident, and with the likes of Wayne Rooney, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and Sandro Ramirez to aim at in the box, he’d certainly create opportunities.

This Everton currently isn’t blessed with bags of pace, especially with Seamus Coleman still out, so bringing someone in like Walcott would give them another option, especially on the counter attack.

Main man (3-4-2-1)

Koeman occasionally played three at the back last season, which saw Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman play as attacking wing-backs down the flanks.

And with the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson, Davy Klaassen, and Wayne Rooney all at the football club, and all preferring the number ten role, Walcott could play just in front of them as the main man.

The width would be provided by the wing-backs, and Walcott would be able to make runs across the front, run the channels, and play off the last defender, what with crosses coming in from the side, and the midfield two behind him seeking to thread passes through the opposition backline.

Everton’s current forward options just aren’t delivering the goods at present, so bringing Walcott in and allowing the likes of Sigurdsson, Rooney, and Klaassen to play in their preferred position just behind could seriously reap the rewards.

Playing off someone (4-4-2)

Everton played 4-4-2 in their most recent clash against Burnley and, although they were lacklustre throughout, all they were missing was a spark from someone.

Which is why a front two including Walcott, and possibly someone like Dominic Calvert-Lewin, could be hugely rewarding for the Toffees as, between the two of them, they have everything a lethal strike partnership could have.

Both are reasonably quick and make intelligent runs, while Calvert-Lewin has more of an aerial threat and could win flick-ons from which Walcott can advance towards goal. And with keen crossers in the side like Sigurdsson, Baines, and Coleman, having an aerial presence, and someone to play off that, could be crucial.

Ultimately, Premier League defenders are finding it increasingly difficult to defend against pace, which is Walcott’s biggest asset, so getting him in position to utilise that is what Everton must look to do.

Landing him in January could save their season.
