Chelsea are reportedly chasing Manchester United’s Paul Pogba as the French midfielder continues to stall on signing a new contract, according to The Daily Mail.
Pogba was at the centre of a storm in 2009 when United were accused of tapping him up when he was at French club Le Havre His contract expires at the end of the season and United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has acknowledged that Pogba may leave on a free transfer in order to seek first-team football.
Ferguson said at the beginning of the season that,
“if we hold Pogba back, what’s going to happen? He’s going to leave. You know, when his contract is going to finish. So we have to give him the opportunity to see how he can do in the first-team and he’s got great ability, plus he’s got the physique and athleticism.”
Pogba has made three Carling Cup appearances for United this season although he is a fixture in their reserve team. Chelsea scouts were at Old Trafford to see him star in their 6-0 hammering of Newcastle’s reserves on Thursday night.
Chelsea are said to be prepared to offer £3million for Pogba before Tuesday’s transfer deadline which may prompt a bidding war with the likes of Arsenal, Inter Milan, Juventus and Manchester City.
