For the first time in what seems like years, the Leeds United supporters are amongst the loudest in the Transfer Tavern as Garry Monk begins to rebuild at Elland Road.

Currently sat in 5th spot, the Whites have been a joy to watch this term and there’s a real feeling amongst those at Elland Road this season can be a turning point for a club who’ve seen it all in recent years.

Which is why their clash at home to fellow in-form side Derby County is a hugely mouth-watering tie.

It’s getting tight in the top six, so a win over the visiting Rams is crucial to Monk as he attempts to keep up with the likes of Reading, as well as remaining within touching distance of the top two.

So, considering all of this, here’s the XI Monk simply needs to field to ensure he beats Derby County at Elland Road on Friday night.

GK: Rob Green

Has dropped his usual fair share of clangers at times this term, though Rob Green is pretty much a nailed-on starter between the sticks at Eland Road.

RB: Luke Ayling

The summer signing is a joy to watch up and down the wings and looks like an increasingly smart move with every passing game.

Will need to push forward.

CB: Kyle Bartley

Wonderfully dominant since linking up with Monk again at Leeds and will be tasked with marshalling their backline with Pontus Jansson suspended.

CB: Liam Cooper

Monk will be desperately hoping Liam Cooper is available for selection after he limped off in the FA Cup against Cambridge United.

It’s vital the Scot is fit for selection, with Jansson out.

LB: Charlie Taylor

Another who is touch and go, Charlie Taylor will hopefully be fit after missing the past few games with an injury.

CDM: Liam Bridcutt

Leeds’ skipper, the Scotsman is the beating heart of Monk’s side and his stoic presence in the heart of midfield is a major part of the Whites’ good play.

CDM: Ronaldo Vieira

Ronaldo Vieira is making quite the name for himself at Elland Road and provides the more disciplined Bridcutt with much more of a dynamic partner.

Will need to get forward and support Chris Wood.

RW: Kemar Roofe

Another summer signing who looks like working out after a difficult start, Kemar Roofe’s industrious running across the frontline will keep Derby’s backline occupied and free up space for the clinical Wood.

CAM: Pablo Hernandez

Will surely be looking to cap off his permanent move to Elland Road with a big performance, picking up difficult positions behind enemy lines.

LW: Souleymane Doukara

Barely the most graceful footballer in the world to watch, Souleymane Doukara is an effective option drifting in from the left, or pulling full-backs out of position with his sheer pace and power.
