United’s start to the Champions League campaign couldn’t have got off to a better start, unbeaten, top of the group and scoring for fun in the first two rounds of games.

After an international break and a big match at weekend, the Red Devils will be looking to continue where they left off against Portuguese side Benfica and some of our punters say they should try to wrap up qualification as quickly as possible.

With a few injuries littered around the squad, Mourinho will be using a little squad rotation to keep things fresh in the aim to keep challenging on all fronts.

Another impressive display will surely start to let the rest of Europe know that the Europa League champions are back in the continental elite and are looking to make a big statement this year after an in-out spell over the past few years.

David De Gea

The United number one will look to put the last ditch goal conceded against Spartak behind him and aim for another clean sheet in game week three.

The ever-present keeper is one of Europe’s, if not the world’s best, at the moment and another assured display that can help United to the three points will only add to the recently nominated Balon d’Or candidate’s stock.

Ashley Young

Mourinho has had a tendency to rest number one fullback Valencia where he can and Young is the perfect replacement to fill in for him. Young is somewhat of a squad/utility player nowadays and his ability to play several positions has come in very useful this year.

Mainly being used on either flank at the back, Young will once again want to prove why he should be given a new contract and his importance to the team.

Victor Lindleof

A summer move away from Benfica this season seen the centre-back join the United ranks but, as of yet, failed to make any impression worthy enough to get Mourinho to stand up and take notice.

A game against his former club will no doubt lift Lindleof’s level and he surely will be out to impress not only his new club but to show what his old club is missing…a big performance is needed.

Eric Bailly

The number one centre back at United will look to once again have a typical tough tackling game, playing alongside Lindelof, he’d be an extra bit of re-assurance if his defensive partner has a big game wobble.

Bailly has been a brilliant signing and some say he’s in the same mould has old fan favourite Vidic, you can only see Bailly improving and if he continues on his current trajectory, he’s a shoe in for future club captain.

Luke Shaw

A problem area for Mourinho this season with Rojo out injured, Young not a natural fullback and Blind only filling in, it’s got to be about time Shaw stepped up to the plate as the clubs only real recognised left-back.

The former Southampton man has been given plenty of opportunities to shine over the past two-plus years but rarely taking his chances with both hands on many occasion.

Nemnaja Matic

Probably United’s signing of the season, Matic has been the plug in the United midfield bathtub this season. His ability to read the game and break down the opposition has been a main factor into how many clean sheets they’ve kept, something Mourinho loves.

He allows the United top third to do what they’re good at and play with freedom and confidence to go and attack. Indeed, the Serbian sits back and protects that back four which may be needed a little more if the inconsistent Lindelof and Shaw don’t step up.

Ander Herrera

Last season’s Player of the Year is looking to take the fact that Carrick, Fellaini and Pogba are all out of the midfield equation at the moment as an opportunity to cement his spot.

The dynamic Spaniard will want to impress once again and similar to Matic, he’ll look to provide protection and direction to enable the team to get the three points.

Jesse Lingard

Lingard has been used as a bit part player this season mainly coming off the bench to make an appearance, playing on the right-hand side of the three will allow Lingard to express himself in his natural position.

Another player that will want to go out and impress the Old Trafford boss and England manager with hopes of reaching the World Cup squad with England next year.

Henrik Mkhitaryan

The Armenian has been one of the players of the season this year and his crucial goals in last season’s Europa League cup winning run has made the attacking midfielder a force to be reckoned with during the mid-week clashes.

The assist king is one of the reasons United are flying high in terms of goals scored this term and he’ll look to continue this form into game week three against Benfica.

Anthony Martial

After his display against Spartak Moscow in the last round of games, it would be hard for Mourinho not to hand Martial a first team starting spot.

He looks confident and driven this year, a shadow of last season’s Martial, the Frenchman will also be keeping an eye out for next year’s World Cup and want to up his game a little more over the coming months.

Romelu Lukaku

The Belgian cannot stop scoring this year for club and country, being United’s sole out and out striking option at the moment, there’s no rest bite for the forward. With the returning Zlatan Ibrahimovic surely back soon, he’ll look to once again hit the back of the net and show why he’s United’s number one choice.
