It’s now six games without a win for out-of-form Everton, whose fans here in the Tavern are growing slightly anxious at their team’s poor run of form.

Ronald Koeman’s men are seriously struggling to find results and this weekend, they came unstuck against a Watford side that have now leapfrogged them in the table.

The Hornets themselves are on a fine run of form and right now, they’re showing enough to warrant a Europa League place come the end of the campaign, if they can keep it up.

But for Everton, attention now turns to a big game on Tuesday evening, where they face an Arsenal side that are doing well themselves in the league.

Neutral supporters are ruling out anything but a defeat for the Toffees on Tuesday but armed with some canny advice from our Blues-man landlord, we’re tipping Everton to get a surprise result.

So with that in mind, here’s our Everton XI that will surprise the Gunners on Tuesday…..

GK: Maarten Stekelenburg

Former Southampton man Maarten Stekeleburg has had a slightly rocky spell between the sticks of late, but there was little he could do as Everton crumbled against Watford on Saturday.

He’ll be hoping for better protection infront of him against the Gunners, or his team will be facing the wrath of the supporters here in the Tavern once again!

RB: Seamus Coleman

He’s a real mainstay in the current Everton XI but Seamus Coleman isn’t showing the sort of form we’re used to seeing from him in the past.

At his best, he’s one of the best all-round full-backs in the division but right now, he’s one of a few that seem to be stuck in the motions a little.

CB: Ashley Williams

Ashley Williams has been the only real sturdy defender at the heart of the Everton defence this season.

Koeman keeps chopping and changing between the out-of-form Phil Jagielka and Funes Mori, and you get the impression it would be easier for Williams if he had a permanent partner.

CB: Funes Mori

It’s a tough call between Mori and Jagielka, but we’ve gone with the former after some seriously poor stuff from the Everton captain this season.

Mori has a bit of work to do to really get up to speed this season but after some serious frustration from Everton fans in recent weeks, he’ll have to step up sooner rather than later.

LB: Leighton Baines

Won Everton a point in their 1-1 draw with Manchester United last week and Leighton Baines isn’t really one of the individuals that deserves lots of stick after a recent dip in form.

CDM: Idrissa Gueye

Idrissa Gueye has dropped off the pace in recent weeks and you can tell as their form has dropped collectively because of it.

He was the heartbeat of the side when the season began and he needs to pick it back up again if his team are to start climbing the table again.

He’ll have the pub landlord on his back again otherwise…

CDM: Gareth Barry

Gareth Barry might be getting on but he’s a player that brings plenty of balance to this Toffees midfield.

He’s not a rampaging, attacking midfielder but rather someone that is quite happy to marshal the defence and keep things tight at the back.

RM: Kevin Mirallas

With Gerard Deulofeu having a quiet game against Watford, we’d like to see Kevin Mirallas come back into the starting XI for the game against Arsenal.

He’s got plenty of experience at this level and is an extremely hard worker on that right-hand side.

Everton need a bit of punch right now and he might be just the man to give that.

CAM: Ross Barkley

Came on in the second half against Watford, but we’d like to see former England favourite given 90 minutes against Arsenal.

He’s a player that always seems to step up on the big occasions and he can make things happen when given the chance.

We need to see more from the talented youngster but he needs time on the pitch to do that too.

LM: Aaron Lennon

We’ve not seen an awful lot from former Spurs favourite Aaron Lennon this season and he’s not really been one of Ronald Koeman’s go-to men in his first season in charge.

But with the Toffees on a dry run, throwing him into the mix might not be a bad shout in the slightest.

He’s got pace to burn and he’d fancy the challenge of running at the Arsenal full-backs.

ST: Romelu Lukaku

He’s scored 12 goals this season after his double against the Hornets and you get the impression any Everton success is going to be down to his form come the end of the season.

He’s a burly unit with a real eye for goal but he could be on his way out this summer if things don’t turn around on the pitch.
