The Manchester United fans are in the Transfer Tavern tonight, eagerly anticipating the beginning of a new Premier League season.

The Premier League season is getting closer and closer by the day after what has felt like an eternity.

Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United side kick off their 2017/18 campaign by playing hosts to Slaven Bilic’s West Ham.

After a successful summer by both sides, this match is set to be a great curtain raiser for the season ahead.

Even though this game is being played at Old Trafford, the Red Devils won’t have the easiest of times against the Hammers after a host of good signings by Bilic this summer.

Former United forward Javier Hernandez will be making his return to Old Trafford following on from the Mexican signing for West Ham in a deal worth around £16 million.

Given the signings Mourinho has made, it looks like they are aiming for Premier League glory this time out so United will need to be at their best on the opening day.

With that being said, here is the starting lineup Mourinho must go with to beat West Ham on Sunday.

David De Gea

This one is a no-brainer. David De Gea is, in our landlord’s opinion, the best keeper in the world and is the main reason United haven’t suffered as badly as they could have done these past few years since Fergie’s departure.

He can win the club points all by himself and West Ham new boy, Javier Hernandez will have a tough time putting it past the Spaniard.

Antonio Valencia

Similarly to Chelsea’s Victor Moses, Antonio Valencia was a player reborn last season as he converted to a right-back.

Nearing ten years at the club after he joined from Wigan back in 2009, Valencia is one of the longest serving players within United’s ranks right now and his experience can be crucial to their success next season.

Victor Lindelof

23-year-old Victor Lindelof will want to get off to a good start in his Premier League career against West Ham after his £31 million move to Manchester this summer.

‘The Iceman’, as he was called by fans of his during his time at Benfica is part of the new partnership that Jose Mourinho will hope can be the backbone of his United defence for years to come.

Eric Bailly

Despite his knee injury which kept him out for a lot of last season, Eric Bailly became a key component of Mourinho’s plans.

The Ivorian was the first player signed by the Portuguese manager as the boss of Man U which can say a lot about the player’s ability.

If he can stay fit then Bailly could play a huge role in United’s push for the title and their push for a result against West Ham.

Daley Blind

Daley Blind’s time at Manchester United has been quite average since his arrival from Ajax in 2014.

Used as a defensive midfielder, a centre back and a left back, Blind needs to nail down a consistent position and our landlord reckons it should be as a left back.

It is unlikely that Luke Shaw will be making his way back into the side so if Blind plays as well as he has shown he can in the past, he can stay consistently within the starting line up.

Nemanja Matic

Nemanja Matic taking up the defensive roles in the centre of the park will allow Paul Pogba do act as more of a free flowing attacking minded midfielder.

It still surprises our landlord that United forked out £40 million for an unwanted player at Chelsea but Matic is a great midfielder who will make life very difficult for the West Ham forwards.

Paul Pogba

As previously mentioned, Matic’s arrival at United should give Pogba more attacking freedom.

As much as people like to say Pogba was a waste of money for United, the Frenchman still had a good debut season for the Red Devils and will be looking to improve on that against West Ham and for the rest of the season.

Anthony Martial

Anthony Martial still has a lot to offer at Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho looked ready to sell the French winger this summer but rumours have died down following an impressive pre-season from Martial.

His pace, strength and dribbling ability will make him a nightmare for the Hammers’ defence on the opening day.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Henrikh Mkhitaryan is going to play a huge role in Manchester United’s campaign this coming season.

The former Borussia Dortmund man had some brilliant moments in a United shirt in his debut season last time out and will be looking to add to that this campaign.

Experienced and trustworthy, he will most likely be one of the first names on Mourinho’s team sheet.

Jesse Lingard

In the past few seasons, Jesse Lingard has evolved into a key player within the Manchester United ranks but the 24-year-old will be hoping this can be his true break out season.

He’s had some brilliant moments for United already but our landlord gets the feeling there is still more to come from the winger.

An explosive player, with Martial and Lingard on both wings the West Ham defence is going to have a tough opening day.

Romelu Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku is going into the 2017/18 campaign as United’s beacon of hope.

If the Belgian forward can recreate his Everton form at Old Trafford and grab 25 plus goals a season then the Red Devils could well be on their way to another Premier League trophy.
