The 2016/17 season is in full swing and the football fixtures just keep on coming, something we love here in the Transfer Tavern.
After another weekend of storming Premier League and EFL action, the EFL Cup takes centre stage once again this week as teams from across the top four tiers in English football aim to secure the first piece of silverware on offer this season.
There’s some cracking ties to look forward to over the next few days and here in the Transfer Tavern we’ll be glued to all of it, as we look for potential shocks and challengers to go on and win the whole thing.
One of the sides many of the punters fancy to go far in this competition is Everton after the scintillating start they’ve had to the season.
The Toffees host Norwich City at Goodison Park as they look to take another step to Wembley and whilst they’ll likely rest some players, our landlord reckons this line-up should be good enough to secure passage into the next round…
Joel Robles
Robles has seen far less playing time than last season but should get the chance to play against the Canaries.
Mason Holgate
Holgate impressed whilst Seamus Coleman was injured and whilst the Irishman has taken his spot back, Holgate should get the nod here.
Ashley Williams
Williams has been as solid as ever for his new club and should start to continue developing his relationship with Phil Jagielka.
Phil Jagielka
Like Williams, Jagielka has started well and needs to play as much as possible to develop his understanding with the Wales captain.
Bryan Oviedo
Leighton Baines is always going to be first choice but now well into his thirties will need a rest occasionally. This is the perfect chance to do so and Oviedo is a more than apt substitute.
Idrissa Gueye
Gueye looks like a top player and is one of those that never needs a rest. This, then, should see him play once again.
Tom Davies
The youngster has come on and featured in fleeting spells for the club this season and could be given the chance of a full game against the East Anglia outfit.
Gerard Deulofeu
Deulofeu is a quality option to have on the bench or start and it should be the latter with how he features tomorrow.
Ross Barkley
Barkley got a bit of a dressing down from Ronald Koeman after the Sunderland game but bounced back against Middlesbrough and should be allowed to continue his development against Norwich.
Aaron Lennon
Lennon might not be good enough to play for Everton at the moment in the league but you can’t deny he still has some ability and should get to show that against Norwich.
Arouna Kone
Kone is never going to start ahead of Romelu Lukaku unless he does something really special. This game is a chance to do just that.
