Southampton have looked impressive this season after an early blip in which they were winless after four matches
Since then though, they have won 4 out of the last 5, drawing the other away at the Champions, Leicester.
This season the Saints are being led by a new manager after Ronald Koeman departed to take charge at Everton. In stepped Frenchman Claude Puel, who has steadied the ship at the South Coast club who are looking to impress in the Premier League, once again.
The Saints have become known for selling their most prized assets and losing two managers in Mauricio Pochettino and Ronald Koeman – but at least that shows that things are good on the pitch.
After destroying Burnley this weekend with the most shots by a single team in a Premier League match this season (34), there seems to be no reason why this side can’t cause an upset at Manchester City next weekend.
In fact, the Sky Blues are winless in 2 so the Saints might just fancy their chances if they line up with this squad…
Fraser Forster
The Saints shot-stopper is one of the best keepers in the Premier League. He’s a guaranteed starter.
Cuco Martina
Always remembered for that stunning strike against Arsenal last season but he is also a top defender adapting to the Premier League nicely.
Jose Fonte
The Southampton centre-half stayed with the Saints over the summer and they’re reaping the rewards.
Superb player.
Virgil Van Dijk
Struggled initially with the Premier League after joining from Celtic but is showing his class now and can score a goal or two, too.
Sam McQueen
Came on due to Matt Targett’s injury against Burnley and shone.
He might be young and inexperienced but if he can replicate a half as good performance against Man City – he could be okay!
Oriol Romeu
The former Chelsea man has settled seamlessly at the Saints and is a very reliable player.
Jordy Clasie
The Dutchman is one of Southampton’s finest players. Hasn’t scored many goals yet but is a very classy midfielder.
Dusan Tadic
The Serbian is a fantastic footballer and is always creating and scoring goals.
Steven Davis
The 31-year-old Northern Irishman is a calm and composed head of the attacking trio and is always likely to cause trouble. Scored a goal at the Etihad on Southampton’s return to the Premier League in 2012.
Nathan Redmond
The summer signing from Norwich has blossomed on the South coast. He can score goals and assist like his Serbian counterpart and is looking a very shrewd signing.
Charlie Austin
Charlie Austin didn’t start this season as first choic,e but goals in his last five games have propelled him to the no.1 striker berth and whilst he continues scoring, he’ll continue getting into the first XI, for sure.
