Liverpool fans here in the Tavern believe that their side are beginning to find their feet as a string of impressive performances has brought about some optimism. Indeed, our resident Reds haven’t stopped celebrating since their thumping 0-7 away win at Maribor. 

The Reds have enjoyed a fine run of form of late as they look to gather momentum after the international break. Having played host to rivals Manchester United this past weekend, they put on a very impressive display of passing and possession play but struggled to find a way past a very defensive and resolute United side which ended up with the result of a goalless draw.

After looking to build on the result against United, Liverpool faced the task of returning to the Champions League. After having made a sluggish start in Europe, having dropped points from winning positions they faced an away match against Slovenian side Maribor. This turned out to be a very dominant and emphatic Reds display as they notched 7 goals past the helpless side as they came out very easy winners.

So, after an impressive return to football it looks as if Klopp and his men have put together a side that has begun to work well on a consistent basis as they look to progress both in Europe and to challenge domestically.

However, next time out they face a stern test at the biggest stage in English football, Wembley Stadium. As they take on an in-form Tottenham side who have recently come away with an outstanding point away from home against European giants Real Madrid, things are going to be difficult.

Still, if the impressive form is set to continue for the Reds then they are going to need to be at their best and prove they can beat the best in England.

If Klopp is to field this side against Spurs then Liverpool should have no trouble in winning the game…

GK: Simon Mignolet

The Belgian netminder has only his defence to blame of recent times as his shot stopping and reactive abilities have been up to scratch as he looks to improve on the criticism he was under last season.

The Reds No.1 has just got the edge over number 2, Loris Karius, and the former Sunderland man has the experience to get the job done in the big games.

RB: Trent Alexander Arnold

The Liverpool youngster has impressed for the side as he offers a bundle of pace and attacking intent mixed with quality defensive capabilities. After an impressive performance and goal against Maribor, this man should look to claim his place over the much more defensive minded Joe Gomez.

Providing that added attacking intent and the edge of being in form, this man should get the nod.

CB: Dejan Lovren

The Croatian has really improved of late as he comes into this one off the back of two straight clean sheets. Having solidified a partnership with Joel Matip, it looks as if the strong and assertive central defender looks to continue to improve as he helps eradicate the defensive inconsistently that we’ve previously been a custom to witness.

The former Southampton man gets our call, as competition from Klavan isn’t budging the in-form man.

CB: Joel Matip

This man has had no trouble in settling down with the club as he has always nailed down a starting spot. The Central defender has grown into a quality centre-back as he provides to strength and aerial ability combined with an added yard of pace which has equipped him well so far against any trickier opposition.

Liverpool are going to need this man to be at his best if he is to keep out in form striker Harry Kane.

LB: Alberto Moreno

The tricky full back was subject to criticism when he first joined the club which was down to positioning and defensive worries. However, he really seems to have improved this season as he has tightened up defensively but still offers that attacking outlet going forward.

This man takes the edge as his recent signs of improvement have led him to become the Reds permanent starter.

CM: Emre Can

The German international has impressed since joining from Bayern Leverkusen as he also nails down a national starting spot. The Red has the ability to produce consistent quality performances for the side as he offers a diverse range of interceptions, passing play and a goal-scoring knack.

The central midfielder’s impressive form has seen him provide countless opportunities for the dangerous front three of late.

CM: Jordan Henderson

The Liverpool captain has always provided that key stability and defensive wall in the middle of the park as he continues to be one of the essential players in a well-worked Liverpool side. Having the ability to play balls out of midfield as well as tracking back and stopping any incoming attacks, Henderson really is a great all-rounder.

Against what is an impressive Spurs attack, the defensive midfielder is going to need to be at his intercepting best as he looks to snuff out any opposition danger.

CM: Georginio Wijnaldum

The former Newcastle man has really come on leaps and bounds so far this season as the Dutchmen has established himself as a definite starter for the side. He offers a great turn of pace to glide past defender while using the vision to find attacking players, with the added ability to make his way into goal scoring opportunities.

This man has settled down nicely in his central midfield role and looks set to continue in this fashion.

RW: Mohamed Salah

The Egyptian winger is in the form of his life and arguably the time of his life as his 2 international goals sent his nation the World Cup for the first time in over 30 years. The red-hot forward has brought his form with him as he netted twice on the European stage as he looks to produce more and more for the club.

The in-form man has been the star man for Liverpool and the side will need him to fire if they are to break down a very resolute Spurs back line.

ST: Roberto Firmino

‘Bobby’ has set the stage for the Reds so far this season, as he converts his game to being more of a provider for fellow attackers. Still, he’s been producing a fine goalscoring record for the side, after a difficult first season.

Similarly, to Salah, having netted twice in midweek against Maribor, this man is in the form of his life as he could find the goal with his eyes closed as things turn to magic when the ball is at his feet.

No question about the striker, one of the in-form forwards in the Premier League gets the start.

LW: Philippe Coutinho

After the Barcelona transfer speculation, the Brazilian wizard has continued on his old merry ways and he doesn’t fail to pull out special moments. Having proved himself as one of the best-attacking players in the world, he’s not hesitated in building on this as he returns to that special form we came to witness last season.

Arguably the first name down on the team sheet, no doubt that this man will play a big part in the result of the weekends game.

So Liverpool fans, is this the side that can bring you a result home from Wembley?
