Merseyside plays host to one of the biggest games in English football on Sunday, in the first of three local Derbies this season. Liverpool should enter the game hot favourites and will be looking to maintain a nine-game unbeaten run, while Everton are on an upward trajectory since they appointed Sam Allardyce.

As our punters well know, the form book goes out of the window when it comes to these type of matches, and anything can happen. Reds boss Jurgen Klopp will want to use the midweek momentum of the 7-0 win over Spartak Moscow to keep his personal unbeaten streak against Everton. With his team not shy in finding the net, another attacking display can potentially aid towards a top-four finish.

Our landlord thinks if he puts out this team against The Toffees, Allardyce will taste his first defeat as Goodison Park Boss.

Simon Mignolet

The Belgian should get the nod ahead to replace Loris Karius, who started mid-week against Spartak Moscow, as Klopp continues to rotate his goalkeeper game by game.

There’s nothing bigger than a Derby to make a name for yourself, and Mignolet will be hoping for a big game to further cement the Number One spot.

Joe Gomez

Having missed last Saturday’s 5-1 victory over Brighton due to a virus, Gomez was passed fit for the midweek match and replaced Trent Alexander-Arnold at the right-back position.

High hopes await for this young England man, although an assured performance can further add to his rising stock.

Dejan Lovren

The Croatian is looking forward after a horrendous October, although he did reasonably well since last month. He will look to keep going on the upward trajectory, by helping his team to another clean sheet.

Needs a big performance to erase some doubts about his ability.

Ragnar Klavan

Klavan was named among the Reds’ substitutes on the trip to the south coast following his rod back from injury. He was deemed to be fit enough midweek and is likely to get another run out in the starting line-up on Sunday due to Joel Matip’s absence.

Though the Estonian certainly has his flaws, he’s improved of late.

Alberto Moreno

The Spaniard is establishing himself as the first-choice left-back this season. It’s unlikely to change, despite Andy Robertson enjoying a rare start against Brighton as Klopp rotated a few players. Moreno will be looking to repay his managers faith with a solid game this weekend.

Emre Can

The German has been impressive this season and scored the opening goal in last Saturday’s defeat of Brighton. His energy and passing ability will play a vital role in securing the three points on Sunday.

While his long-term future may not be clear, Can is looking as solid as ever.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

The former Arsenal man is still adjusting to life under a new manager in Klopp, his improvement over a short period of time will start to make the Reds boss head turn.

So, it could be another game on the bench for Captain Jordan Henderson, as he struggles for form.

Philippe Coutinho

The Brazilian midfield magician scored a peach of a free-kick at the Amex stadium followed by a hat-trick midweek. The creative catalyst of this attacking Liverpool side, he will have a major role to play if they are to win this Derby game.

A truly world class midfielder, the 25-year-old could wreak havoc between the lines if Everton defend like they did last weekend.

Mohamed Salah

It’s a certainty the Egyptian is going to start on the right wing. The Premier League’s leading goal-scorer is looking at his deadly best at the moment and will look to pose the biggest attacking threat to the Everton’s defence.

Perhaps Liverpool’s very best player since Luis Suarez, the former Roma man can endear himself to Liverpool fans even further with a big performance.

Roberto Firmino

Coutinho’s fellow Brazilian Firmino will be high on confidence after having netted against Brighton and Spartak Moscow last week. He is a sure starter for Klopp and will relish playing in this current team, fronting up their attack.

Though not a natural centre-forward, Firmino holds the ball up well and allows Liverpool’s flying wingers to cause havoc down the flanks.

Sadio Mane

The Senegalese forward can win games for Liverpool by himself and has shown it time and time again. He will be raring to have a go at the Everton defence and see how well set up Allardyce’s team really is.

The hero against the Toffees last season, Mane is a constant threat against full-backs.
