Our Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern are starting to think about possible silverware this season with the Reds preparing for an EFL Cup quarter-final against Leeds United.

It’s a tournament the men from Merseyside have long been synonymous with thanks to their record eight wins of the competition and, after reaching last year’s final, they’ll be looking to go one better this year.

That game at Wembley was the first final the Reds had reached under Jurgen Klopp and with their fans expecting many more under his stewardship, they’ll be looking to beat Garry Monk’s side at Anfield confidently.

No games are easy, though, at this stage of the competition with the Whites in fine form this season, currently in the play-off places in the Championship and looking to return to the top flight at last.

They’ll be looking to prove they belong amongst the elite again, then, and so the Reds will have to be on their guard ahead of this fixture.

Our landlord agrees and thinks this 4-3-3 line-up will see Liverpool progress into the semi-finals…

GK: Simon Mignolet

Mignolet has quickly become the number 2 ‘keeper since Loris Karius recovered from his injury so he needs to make this chance count. If he can’t get in the Reds’ line-up he’ll be playing for a move elsewhere.

RB: Nathaniel Clyne

Clyne can run and run and run so expect him to start for the Reds against the Championship side. It’s the quarter-finals now so the Anfield men need to try and play as strong a side as possible.

CB: Dejan Lovren

Lovren has become a key part of the defence at Liverpool and should start this one. He’ll be charged with keeping the in form Chris Wood quiet on the night.

CB: Ragnar Klavan

The summer signing has played most of his fixtures for the Reds in this competition so will probably come into the side once again against Leeds United. He has looked solid if unspectacular at the back this season so expect another decent enough performance.

LB: Alberto Moreno

Moreno is playing for his Liverpool future after seeing James Milner take his spot this season. He should get the nod for this one and Klopp will be looking for him to combine his obvious attacking ability with some defensive nous.

CDM: Lucas Leiva

Lucas is one of the senior figures in the side now and is very much a squad player. Nevertheless, he provides a decent option from the bench and will likely start here with his experience of getting through these kind of games.

CM: Georginio Wijnaldum

The Dutchman is competing with Emre Can for the midfield spots though both have been helped recently by the injury to Adam Lallana. Can has played more games recently, though, so expect Wijnaldum to get his chance here.

CM: Jordan Henderson

The captain is now a pretty much nailed-on starter for the club no matter what the fixture. He’s one of those players that doesn’t seem to need a rest as often as others and so Klopp will likely give him another appearance here.

RW: Sadio Mane

Mane has been one of the stars of Liverpool’s season so far and so it’s more than likely he will get to play against Leeds. The winger has scored already in this competition and will look to add to his tally to get the club into the final four.

ST: Divock Origi

With Philippe Coutinho suffering a knock and Roberto Firmino also going off a little worse for wear in the game against Sunderland, Divock Origi has the chance to shine once again. The Belgian will want to follow his goal against the Black Cats up against the men from Elland Road.

LW: Ben Woodburn

Our Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern are excited by the potential Woodburn brings and whilst he’d rather be playing down the middle, he’ll certainly jump at the chance to play here. No Daniel Sturridge could see him make his next step in his fledgling career.
